My wife and I cruised on Liberty of the Seas out of Galveston with departure on April 28 and return on May 5. We stayed in a Junior Suite on deck 9. Great room - we love the junior suites as the extra room, closet space and a full tub with shower are really nice. They do cost more, but at this point in our cruising career (this was our 20th cruise) we tend to go with the junior suites.
Embarkation: We arrived at the pier via an Uber from a local hotel at about 11:00. As Diamond Plus members everything went very fast and we never sat down until we were on the ship. We got through security and check-in and happened to arrive in the waiting area as they called Pinnacle and suite guests to board. Perfect timing!
The reason for the title of my review is that this is a Galveston-based cruise with lots of people from Texas and surrounding states. Thus, the cruise line has catered to these guests with lots of "country"-themed events. The band in the Star Lounge played country all week.

Stay on the beach side of the island - it still close to the pier.
Good place to walk around and shop. Don't try to walk to the downtown area. Cab ride for up to 4 is only $8 each way. Walking would take 45 minutes, or more, each way.
