We chose Liberty because Galveston is within driving distance from our hometown. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. Some of the ship’s decor is quite dated but it was very clean. Everyone who worked on the ship was friendly and provided excellent service. Many passengers were repeat passages from Texas, and probably 1/3 were senior citizens. They seemed to have a wonderful time on Liberty, as well as the other age groups. We had 5:45 p.m. my time dining every evening, and the service was excellent. The food in all venues ranged from average to good, and our head waiter did a great job catering to my husband’s dietary needs. Royal Caribbean has not changed their dining room menus in years; the food was exactly the same as when we sailed on Anthem last year. We did not attend any of the shows, but there was always something to do if we wanted to stay busy. The activities in the Promenade were well attended and it was fun to watch these events from our stateroom window. The pools were extremely crowded on sea days and although we wanted to relax by the pool it was impossible to find a chair during prime time. There were always plenty of empty chairs on the upper deck, however. Water slides were fun! Having been on a newer and larger ship, my teenagers might have found Liberty less exciting but my husband and myself enjoyed the entire cruise. The one downside to Liberty is the amount of smoke on the deck where the casino is located. The smoke is so bad that we could not order pictures in the nearby picture gallery without being engulfed by the smell of smoke. We learned avoid that area on the first day.

My husband got a massage and he said it was “okay.” We used the gym daily and I enjoyed the classes that were offered. The gym is well equipped and clean.

Cabin Review

Promenade View Interior

Cabin 2T

Cabin was clean but decor was dated. Shower was tiny...smaller than any other cruise I have been on. Promenade view was fun for watching evening activities, and it was only noisy one night. The cabins across from you can see directly in your stateroom, so our curtains were often closed. I would book this type of room again.

Port Reviews

Costa Maya

We booked a beach excursion outside of Royal, but the sea grass has gotten so bad that they cancelled the excursion. You can smell the sea grass in the port also. We just walked around the port. Pretty port, but everyone is selling the same trinkets.
