Loved the itinerary for this cruse and a chance to escape the Florida heat. Saw a lot of mixed reviews for this ship so we were a little concerned. First trip with Norwegian and overall we were very happy with our experience and will try them again for sure. The ship was great. It has been renovated and they did a nice job. It is an older ship but overall very well maintained. If you look real hard, you will see her age but our room and the public rooms we visited were well done and not worn looking. We received a free upgrade to a mini suite with balcony on deck 11. Made sure we weren't under the buffet due to a lot of noise complaints we saw in previous reviews. Ended up in 11098 and loved the room and balcony. Comfy bed, nice furnishings and overall very nice. We had a beverage and specialty dining package included in our rate and really enjoyed both. Not sure I would do the beverage package again as price versus how much we drink made me think we would have done better to buy our drinks but the specialty dining was great. Really enjoyed Cagney's and La Cucina. Moderno was good, not great. Wish we had done Los Lobos instead but enjoyed it regardless. Overall, food was very good. Ate in the MDR twice for dinner and both meals were excellent. Breakfast is a bit of a disappointment and the buffet is hit or miss. O'Sheehans was decent food (not great) but the service was very uneven. At times we were ignored. In general the service was very good and met a lot of very nice staff but most of the staff at O'Sheehan's were not interested and some were rude. Bartenders could be difficult to get to help you here and the ship sailed well below capacity. We really enjoyed the size of the ship with about 2200 people on board. We never waited in a line longer than 5 minutes except one late arrival into Newport which resulted in a huge mess getting tenders on and off the ship. Entertainment was great. In particular Azalea who for some reason played the Atrium every evening. They are fantastic and far more talented than any other cruise ship group I have ever heard, even in many of the shows. Why these two aren't doing shows in the Theater is a mystery! Benjamin and Mia are fantastic musicians but also very nice people. They made the rounds after every set and spoke with many guests. They had quite the following by the end of the cruise. Loved Halifax, Bar Harbor, Portland and Newport. St. John was just ok. No excursion was just fantastic. You can do these ports on your own or book tours with a little research and save a lot of money. Overall, we thought NCL was a step up from Carnival and RCL. Our next big cruise will be Alaska next year and we are looking at NCL, Celebrity, and Princess for that one. I would not hesitate to endorse this cruise and itinerary but the enjoyment factor is definitely increased when the ship is not sailing at full capacity.
