Weare seniors ages 70 and 78 having been on a couple previous Celebrity cruises. We found the edge to be innovative, creative and fun.
Embarcation at the new terminal was efficient and well organized. We were happy to be able to bring our carry on items to our cabin and drop them off, get our keys and begin exploring the ship right away.
Our cabin steward Mark was outstanding and very accommodating. Francisco and Janet in Tuscan took very good care of us and always made us feel welcome. Carlos in the Oceanview when needed carried our dishes outside at breakfast and they were so good about bringing us coffee. Havier who did customs interface was very helpful in dealing with getting my guide dog access in Mexico. So many of the crew were helpful and friendly that it is hard to name them all.
We very much appreciated having a priest onboard for services during Easter week and they were well attended with over 100 people. Also, Jim Kennedy, the Beyond the Podium speaker was outstanding, educational and entertaining. We had pre-ordered casino money from our obc and found it difficult to use on the card -- we would not do this again.
We were prepared for what to expect in the infinite veranda from reading other reviews. It should be renamed a "sunroom". Our window really needed some WD40 as it was making very loud squeaking noises when being raised or lowered. It was nice to have the window open much of the time and made the cabin spacious. There was easily enough storage for 2 people. We never closed the bifold doors.
Although I missed The small bottles of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel the larger bottles mounted in the shower are probably better environmentally.
We appreciated people from hotel management attending the Cruise Critic Meet and Greet to get feedback from us all on how to tweak the amenities of this new ship. We felt Celebrity was listening to our input.
Loved exploring the artwork and finding nooks and crannies. However, we would have preferred a library or quiet sitting area. The deck area outside Eden on 5 was a hidden gem.
The walking track which extends over two floors was great as was the fitness center which had cold towels in the refrigerator. .
I did not appreciate the attempts to upsell at the Canyon Ranch spa although the massage was good and very relaxing.
We found the variety and quality of food on Celebrity especially at the Oceanview excellent. Passion Orange Guava juice was a favorite of mine and the fresh in house made bakery items are not to miss especially the croissants.
Grilled meats and vegetables were a good choice. The homemade ice cream was very popular so be prepared for a long line. Tuscan was our assigned dining room but we also ate one night in Normandy. In the MDR, onion soup was the best and, of course, the lobster. The Masthead grill had a little shade and was a nice place for a quick lunch. The only specialty restaurant we ate at was lunch at Grand Bistro and it was well worth the money especially the crème broulet.
The cruise director Damien was energetic and engaging. In our opinion, more meeting rooms are needed for gatherings like church and beyond the podium talks.
There was enough variety of entertainment to suit everyone although not everyone would like all the entertainment choices in our opinion. We loved Silent Disco and the comedians.
The Celebrity app is a work in progress and not always very easy to use but there were paper schedules and info on the tv as alternatives for the non-high-tech.
We did not frequent the high end shops and missed browsing through more affordable opportunities to bring home mementos of the trip.
Overall we found the Edge innovative, fun to explore, sophisticated with something for people of all ages.
infinite veranda is more like a sun room but having the doors open all the time makes the cabin very spacious. The open window brought in lots of fresh air unless there was high humidity. A fan would be helpful on the ceiling. Bathrooms were very big for a ship. There was plenty ofstorage spaces but the safe is very small. Shower gel, conditioner and shampoo are mounted on the wall so no souvenir bottles to bring home. Loved the dark chocolates that appeared on our pillow each night. Cabin steward was attentive and nonintrusive.
