This was our second cruise, the first being with Princess last year. This time we took our kids, ages 9 and 13. Because of adding them, cost wise we opted to go with Carnival. I knew going in that the experience wouldn’t be the same as with Princess, especially in regards to food, but I did think that because Carnival owns Princess, the overall service experience would be similar. Also, we have several friends that have been on Carnival cruises and had positive experiences, so we went in with an open mind.

This cruise had a lot of pros and cons for me and my husband. Overall it wasn’t BAD, but it certainly wasn’t GREAT.

Pros:

Balcony

Cabin 8D

Comfortable beds, great view from balcony, overall nice room.

Port Reviews

Half Moon Cay

Our excursion got canceled because of water conditions, though ours was the only one to do so. So we just ended up snagging a couple of beach chairs and letting the kids play in the ocean for a bit. We aren’t huge beach people, so this was pretty average for us. It was crowded.

Freeport

Crew and boat were great. Water was choppy so some people experience sea sickness, but this was outside excursions control.

Key West

Went to three different museums and had a great time at all three. Short walk from cruise ship.

Key West

Booked independently on Groupon. 13 year old and husband did this. It was both their first times. They said the boat was in excellent condition, the crew was very knowledgeable, and they had an absolute blast.

New Orleans

Didn’t really explore city beforehand. We parked at an outside facility that drove us into the port. Was pretty easy.
