We chose this cruise because it was sailing across the Atlantic. Neither of us had ever partaken of a cruise before. It exceeded all our expectations. As first time cruisers we were completely at a loss what to do, where to go, procedure once we boarded the Star. Although staff at the passageway door, no real instructions provided not even when we asked. Some sort of orientation session would have been nice for the few of us who had never cruised before.
99% of the time the staff was fantastic doing everything they could to ensure we had the best time of our lives. The only negative related to staff was the information/customer service desk. We learned quickly that if you asked a question, even about important stuff (lost items, disembarkation/customs procedures) the answer would be different with each staff person you asked.
Dining was incredible. So much variety and so well prepared and tasty even at the buffet, the available restaurants were icing on the cake. Ginza was our only disappointment. Tried it twice. Food not bad, just not very good compared to everywhere else.
Great cabin. Very clean, spacious with lots of storage. Well layed out. Bed and pillows comfortable. More electrical outlets would have been appreciated. The closest outlet for CPAP was at foot of bed but worked out. USB ports at head of each bed. Cabin steward attentive and responsive to our needs. Being sailors on Lake Superior we very much enjoyed the porthole being so close to the water and hearing the sound of the wake rushing by the hull and the waves splashing against the hull next to our heads.
As first time cruisers would have been nice to have more instructions once onboard.
Wonderful journey through the interior and pleasant town of Ribera Grande.
Interesting trip around the island and up into the mountains. The cable car part had great views but was nothing special.
Took the NCL shore excursion the the White Villages and Countryside. Good, informative tour of the village set at the top of the mountain with plenty of time. Very much enjoyed the two beaches we stopped at but much too short.
Took the Elche's Palm Forest tour booked through NCL. Long drive but enjoyed Elche's and the Palm Forrest garden once we arrived.
Took NCL shuttle to old city center. Wonderful time on our own, exploring, discovering hidden gems away from the maddening crowds.
