We chose this cruise for the itinerary. We could not afford to take 15 days to sail from the Mainland. We spent a day and a half at a resort, sightseeing Honolulu, and boarded the Pride of America on Saturday, 27 Apr. We found the crew to be very nice and friendly when you smiled at them and gave a greeting sorts. They smiled back. Funny how that works. Every job has a grumpy day so... If we ever go again, we will not do a bus tour. We did one on Maui and even though it was interesting, we we subjected to the Cries of the Angry Adolescent Tourist. The other islands we stopped at, we rented a car. That is by far the best way to see 'stuff'. It's all beautify. However, there are those who will choose the bus tour but be prepared, it is expensive. It's Hawaii, everything is expensive, just plan for it. The ports we stopped at were not a typical cruise port with cute kiosks to shop at; that most are expecting to see. They are working harbors. When you leave the ship, that's where the magic happens. We ate at three of the specialty restaurants; Cagney's Steakhouse, The Moderno (churriscaria) and Teppanyaki. The food was outstanding in all three, but at the Teppanyaki, the chef was extremely entertaining. A true showman! Because we were in a suite, we ate breakfast and sometimes lunch at Cagney's Steakhouse. It was a set menu daily. But, it was not as crowded. All in all, the we would do this cruise again.

Cabin Review

Penthouse with Large Balcony

Cabin SE

This cabin was a suite close to the bridge. So, front part of the ship. We have cruised a few times and have had a suite. PoA was not as large as the other cruise lines. It was quite nice for the 3 of us. We had a kingsize, very comfortable bed and the sofa turned out to a queen size. Our son slept on that and said it was comfortable enough. The room also has a little vanity/change area with a reasonable amount of storage. As long as you don't overpack! Our suite also came with a concierge and butler. We weren't sure what to do with a butler, but found out soon enough, she was there with anything we needed - or thought we did. We had little appetizers daily and champagne. It was quite nice, indeed.

The bathroom was a little small, but very functional. Our 6'5" son couldn't stretch out in the tub and if you wanted to shower with a friend, you can not. All in all, it was worth the money we spent and we had a very good time.

Port Reviews

Honolulu

We rented a car and drove out to The Missouri and the Arizona Memorial

Kauai

We rented a car and drove to Waimea Canyon. Tour buses do go, but, we were glad to have the car. And, I have a friend who lives there, she met us at the pier and we had dinner together.

Kona (Kailua Bay)

We just wanted to shop at Hilo Hatties. It was a great surprise to find there was a shuttle at the pier. There was one for Wal-Mart too. It was great! lol Once we shopped, the shuttle took us back to the pier and we boarded PoA.

Hilo

We rented a car and went to a place I went to 57 years ago. Kilauea Military Camp. Tour buses didn't go there.
