We chose this cruise because we were traveling with my elderly father. We knew Holland America typically caters activities and meals to the more mature crowd, so we thought it would be a good fit. My father enjoyed his cruise. But we had to work at it.
Starting with positives....
Holland America has disembarkation and customs down to a science. I would give this a high five star rating.

Spa Verandah Suite
Complimentary vitamin water. 3 bottles for 2 people on a 7 day cruise.
Tubs are old, but mostly maintained. Balcony nice, but if adjoining to others, there will be a bar about shin high to step over.
It’s easy to put luggage under bed, but be aware about 25% of space under bed is storage for crew and their needs for each cabin.
There’s a huge glass coffee table in the room that gets in the way of everything. It’s difficult to move.

Roatan
It was clean. We felt safe. We stayed in the shopping area and did not venture into town.
Santo Tomas de Castilla
Locals were a bit pushy. It was raining outside, and leaking inside. The lengthy walk from the ship prohibited many from leaving the ship. Crew and website warnings kept us from wandering into the city. Prepare to barter hard.
Costa Maya
Enjoyed bird men show. Liked bird sanctuary exhibit. Liked layout of the town to eat, relax, and be entertained. This stop was a great mix of culture and shopping and completed our trip. We did not venture out of the town, but felt safe enough if we had chosen to do so. The mega margarita was a fun break.
