I had high expectations post-revolution as I was on the Summit last August and was excited to see the improvements. Were it not for the excellent staff I would have left really pissed off.

We took a taxi from the airport to the pier. There were no ships in port so it would have been nice if they used a dock in town instead of their current location. Too much to get off and taxi into town. Check-in was a breeze and once on the ship we we were offered the usual glass of wine, which is always warm, so I declined. We went directly to our room to drop off our belongings then went to lunch. Imagine our surprise to see the tiny safe. Thank goodness we left our iPads at home.

The ship on a whole is still old and rusty so don't expect magic.

Cabin Review

Aqua Class

Cabin A1

I hated this room. The length of the bed makes the room smaller. In addition, the wall in front of the bed is not flat so because of the intrusive abutment to mount the TV, we kept banging into the TV. The bathroom was much smaller and we also kept banging into the bar, which is in an awkward position (came home with several bruises). The dream shower jets were removed and replaced with an inferior replacement. If you need to take a shower before dinner, do so before 5 as there is not much water pressure. Storage was not an issue, however. The balcony was very small and every time it rains it became a swimming pool, so we could not go outside. This is a long-standing issue reported numerous times so we thought it would have been addressed during the remodel. In fine form it was ignored. Lastly, do not bring large gadgets if you expect to store them in the safe as the safe was downsized to fit a couple of wallets, travel documents and cell phones. The size of the opening for the safe was large enough to place a decent sized safe but they opted for this horrible one.

Port Reviews

San Juan

We were here a week before the hurricane hit and because of the outpouring of kindness from the various organizations, the city has made a marvelous comeback.

St. Croix

Walked from the Pier to Sand Castle on the Beach. Beautiful little hotel and only $10 for two chairs, an umbrella and a welcome drink. The owners Ted and Chris were always present and making sure everyone was happy and having a good time. The beaches here on a whole are rocky but there were clear paths to enter the water, which was divine. Took a nice slow walk back to ship. Most establishments were closed as it was Sunday but a few stalls and bars did open.

I will definitely return here, if given the chance as I had a wonderful time.

St. Maarten

Again, I visited this port a week before the devastating hurricane but there are still signs of the devastation. We didn't go to Orient Bay as usual as it is still not built up. We ferried over to town but the harassment on the beach for beach chairs were at an all time high. We finally went into a small restaurant called Caribbean Blend to get away for a drink, some WiFi and peace and quiet. After we finished we returned to the ship.

Dominica

Not my favorite port. Again harassment was at an all time high. Too many aggressive people offering tours. Just walked a bit and returned to the ship.

Barbados

My favorite port. Nice easy walk downtown to beautiful beach. $15 for two chairs, an umbrella and a welcome drink.

Stayed a while, took a slow walk back to the ship and stopped for a drink along the way.

This was a comical incident. Asked two old ladies to recommend a nice local place for food and they told us to follow them to a nice buffet place. My husband heard one telling the other that "we will get them to pay for our food". I never heard and kept walking but when we got there we lagged behind a bit and he told me. Saw them filling their plates to the max so we sneaked away and left.

Grenada

It was raining when we arrived so we came off for a little while and returned to the ship. been here several times before.
