We are loyal Viking River cruisers (5 trips) and decided to give Viking Ocean a try. We have traveled on other ocean cruise lines. Generally, things went pretty well for us, though there were a few bumps during the first couple of days.
We love the Viking Orion. With only about 900 passengers, it is small and intimate but still has everything we wanted. If you are looking for casinos or large Vegas-style reviews - the Viking Orion is not for you.
The good: wine and beer included with meals, free internet, free launderette, free excursion in each port, heated bathroom floors, comfortable beds, adequate sized cabins, alternate restaurants included, outstanding lecturers and speakers, friendly & efficient crew, good food selection and preparation, verandas on all cabins, the "Explorer Dome". Ample storage in cabins. Certain class cabins get free minibar and laundry. Awesome use of state of the art technology everywhere on board. Spa area. Many quiet comfortable spaces to read and relax. Infinity pool. Musicians and singers were all good.
We reserved a guaranteed cabin and were upgraded to the Penthouse Veranda. Loved the cabin. Plenty of electrical outlets, spacious, free minibar, beds were very comfortable, lots of storage space. But, no magnifying makeup mirror.
Gardens by the Bay, Sands at Marina Bay, river cruise, City tour -
No reason for this port . Dirty Polluted. Stay on board. Virtually all other passengers regardless of excursion agreed.
Standard city tour. Weather was hazy so sights were limited.
Mosque photo stop, City Tower, Petronas tower, city tour by bus, lunch
good overview of countryside - Rice terraces, batik, wood carvers, history
