  3. Norwegian Getaway
This was my & my wife’s 3rd cruise with Norwegian & the best to date. We were in a balcony cabin, 10176, on deck 10. We had a friend with us, who was in a studio cabin, also on deck 10. As far as I know, NCL is the only cruiseline with these cabins for singles. Our cabin was typical for this level of cruiseline in size & quality, although the balcony is small. We liked this cabin better than the suite we had on Epic, however. Embarkation & disembarkation at the Port of Miami went well, although lineups and delays did exist especially on leaving the ship & finding our luggage. I parked our vehicle in the nearby parking garage, which was very convenient. Didn’t like the itinerary for the cruise, but the warm weather & usual quality NCL entertainment made up for it somewhat. The main dining rooms, were terrific & turned out great meals for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Service was mostly great too, but there were a few glitches when their facilities were stretched to the max. We also ate at a few of the specialty restaurants. Le Bistro was excellent, both in the quality of the meals and the service. Cagney’s also turned out terrific food, in huge quantities. Steak and prime rib are especially recommended & were as good as we’ve eaten anywhere. La Cucina was fine, but not up to the level of the other two. We had reservations at Ocean Blue, but after being confronted with an extra fee and dispute over what was “appropriate “ attire, decided not to go there. We didn’t hear anything good about it anyway, so didn’t feel we missed much. The entertainment on-board Getaway is up to NCL’s usual high standards. The best show we saw was Cirque, with great performers & very inventive theme. It included a surprisingly fantastic meal of steak & shrimp, served fresh & hot. Burn the Floor and Million Dollar Quartet we’re also great shows, although we were surprised to see many empty seats. The service on the Getaway was mostly fantastic and happily provided. Our cabin steward, Ludwin, kept our cabin spic and span & always seemed to be happy and smiling. We’d also like to give some possibly unfamiliar compliments to the staff at the Customer Service desk and their handling of our issues regarding Ocean Blue. No doubt, these individuals who have the unenviable jobs of trying to resolve guests’ complaints and issues, rarely are recognized for their help and expertise & we’d like to thank them for their help. We’d happily cruise on the Getaway again, although we’d want a different itinerary. NCL is one of our favourite cruiselines. On our last two cruises with them, we took advantage of their “free offers” including drinks package, specialty dining & excursions contribution which we used to the max. If you drink alcohol at all, we’d strongly recommend the drinks package.

  • Harvest Caye
Went on an NCL tour to Mayan ruins and a spice farm. Both locations were very interesting and well presented and we enjoyed the tour, although it did mean for a lot of time riding around in a bus on poor roads.

  • Island Tour
Our driver/guide, Courtney, took us all around the island and gave us in depth information about life there. He was a great guide & took us to the Monkey & Sloth Sanctuary and a mangrove swamp tour. Like so many of the countries in the islands & Central America, there is a lot of poverty and a lack of opportunities for the residents, which is rather depressing to see. The island is lovely & the winter weather is enviable to a person from the north.
