Where to begin. Royal is nothing like it use to be. It all started with a moldy smelling bathroom and the smell of sewage. Our luggage arrived quickly and after noticing the odors I pushed forward to unpack. I went to put my shampoo in the shower to find USED dry soap bars. No wonder the bathroom smelled like mold. It is obvious that the room attendant bypasses cleaning the bathroom for weeks if not months. He must just do a quick surface clean so you think he is cleaning. Later we noticed constant flushing noise in the ceiling by the door. I counted 42 times in a 15 minute period. I have cruised over 25 times and most of them with Royal and never had this issue before. I was told our mid ship balcony room was the hub for all the plumbing above. After waiting 45 minutes at customer service I was told they only had a room at the BACK of the ship. Well I only do mid ship in case of rough seas but we had no choice it was that or stay in a dirty, modly toilet flushing cabin. We were told a person would be at our room to move us in 15 minutes. Well we ran back packed up our room again after no sleep. 45 minutes later still no one. Finally a miserable non helping man showed up and watched me load everything onto the cart. He was no help what so ever. The crew allowed 2 thousand kids (apparently northeast children had week off from school) to run around in bar areas and on stages and in the solarium. When you asked employees to control the kids they would just walk away. Mind you we asked during a solo performance in the schooner bar. The service was sub par as well as the food but that has been going down hill for the last 5 years. Then to top it off Coco Cay was under construction. It looked horrible and half the island was blocked off. I can’t believe they stopped here knowing the mess it was. It wasn’t from a hurricane or other unforeseen natural disaster. It’s their own island and to have people pay to sit on an ugly construction site was unacceptable. We have been there multiple times so we know how bad it really was. New cruisers might not have realized how ripped off they were by Royal. It’s the older cruisers that see how horrible the food, customer service and the overall treatment loyal customers for many years are being treated. There were so many other issues but I can’t possibly write them all. We are Diamond PLUS members and after my last two cruises and especially this one I will never cruise with them again. It has been very sad to see their decline. I did one Carnival cruise and Royal has become no better. They have managed to go from one of the best to the bottom of the barrel in 5 years and the saddest part is they DONT care. Now that the masses can afford it they can lower their standard and still have hundreds lined up so why spend more for better food, entertainment and good customer service. It’s like the airlines have become herd them in and throw them peanuts.
