Glad we cruised on the Edge - and might again

Celebrity Edge Cruise Review by singajane

Trip Details
  • Sail Date: Mar 2019
  • Destination: the Eastern Caribbean
  • Cabin Type: Edge Veranda Stateroom

We booked our IV cabin when it was still in blueprints... and were excited to try such a stunningly beautiful and unique ship. Celebrity has taken a big chance and I hope they succeed. We are a couple in our 60s, and have been cruising with Celebrity and RCI and Carnival about twice a year for the past five.

Things we loved:

It's a beautiful ship. A feast for the senses. Art and design features that amazed us (Picasso, Dali, and so many different chairs). Loved the winding corridors and asymmetrical spaces.

There's almost no second hand smoke.

The Edge is very fuel efficient, and has taken significant steps to reduce single use plastics.

Four MDRs. Usually we book Aqua class and eat in Blu; glad we didn't on Edge. Tuscan was our favorite but we tried them all.

Going for a walk on the walking/jogging track to work off some of that food. Lap swimming possible in the mail pool in the morning.

Friendly, helpful, amazing staff. Captain Dimitrios sets a high bar and everyone we interacted with was superb.

Embarkation and disembarkation - best we've ever experienced. An example of intelligent use of technology, which was also true of cabin climate and lighting controls.

Solarium and spa. The solarium always seemed quiet enough for us to find a couple of comfortable chairs. Did a spa day pass for the thermal suite - fantastic! Loved the Hammam Turkish Bath, the sauna, the chairs, the views.

Silent disco.

Eden for a drink before dinner.

Things we liked:

Great Celebrity food, as expected. I could live just on their baguettes. All our meals were excellent.

Shows, especially the acrobatics in The Club as well as in the theatre.

The size and design of our room. The IV makes it bigger, no question about that. The bathroom and shower is great. The TV screen is much better than the norm, and there seem to be more options available, including a nice selection of free movies.

Things we missed from other cruise experiences:

Sitting on the balcony in the early morning without waking the other person in the room. This was probably the biggest drawback of the IV, because it squeaks to open and close that big rolling window. We didn't use the French doors or the blinds much at all.

So, we had a fabulous cruise, one of the best we've ever had. We loved the ship, loved our room, enjoyed the ports. But we were lucky enough to book at a reasonable price, and so it was also a great value. When we look at current prices, we're not sure we'd book again, but we will keep looking for a good deal. We loved the Edge and hope to sail her again.

Cabin Review

Edge Veranda Stateroom
Cabin E1 7259

7259 is an IV room with the bed closer to the door. Ample storage for our week's worth of stuff. Quiet. Except for the squeaking of the IV window being lowered or raised. Love the ability to control climate and TV from phone or touchpad. Loved the spaciousness of the IV room, clean design, colors, comfy bed, great shower and bathroom. 7259 does have lifeboats below (on deck 5) but views were great.
