We chose this voyage because of the overnight in Havana with the long days in port.
The we arrived late and left early abbreviating our time in Havana. Fortunately we had a private tour on the second day so we could adjust our times.
Embarkation in Miami was a snap! We arrived at 2pm and were onboard at 2:45.
Know in advance that English is possibly the 4th language over the speaker system, if at all.
Our outside cabin was tiny in our opinion. You walked in and there was the bed! Only one person could unpack at a time. Limited drawer space, plenty of closet hanging space. A small chair at the make-up table and a stool next to the tv (never sat on it all week). The bathroom was fine and well laid out. Our cabinm was deck 11 aft. Very noisy at night with the tables from the buffet area above us being moved for cleaning at midnight and later. Noisy from chairs being moved starting at 6:30 am.
The ship is not new, we knew that, but recently refurbished. There was no artwork on the walls in the hallways, stairs or common areas. Very boring neutral colors throughout the ship. We found that the buffet area was very disorganized insofar as grouping items together. When we found the egg station for an omelet, it was on the opposite side from the pancakes or waffles and both of those stations were separate from the meats and the potatoes. Butter, if you could locate it was not next to the breads. Smoked salmon one day was next to the bagels and in a separate location the next time. It was not offered daily, or it was so well hidden it could not be located.
Lunch and dinner at the buffet left a lot to be desired. The presentation was not appetizing. The food was prepared in stoneware crock pots, and served that way. The quality of the offerings was below par in our opinion. Limited selections again at lunch and dinner. Best lunch option was the grill on the pool deck or the pizza station on the opposite side.
Dining room, still traditional 2 seatings, not to our taste. Most evenings one of us ordered from the "Classic" always available items, steak, chicken, salmon. Although traditional seating, it seemed we were rushed through our meal. we had second seating.
Evening entertainment, if you could call it that, was amateurish at best. The shows we were able to attend didn't make us want to come to the next show. The best show of the week was the Cruise Staff Show. Very funny although skits we had seen elsewhere.
Bar staff at the bar took their time in serving, and table staff, if you could find them, was very slow. There was no push to get you to buy drinks on deck, very pleasant atmosphere. (If interested I have 6 free dring tickets available to anyone that wants them)
The pool area gets 5 stars. Great layout, very comfortable chairs. Although there is a 30 minute policy, we saw chairs being held all day, like any other cruise ship. The gym has 4 treadmills, and 2 were broken. We never saw a crowd in the casino.
Very mediocre cruise experience. We wanted Havana, and that was our reason for being there. We booked our excursions through Shore Excursions.com. Contrary to the written reports, you can walk Havana on your own. Jamaica switched ports to Ocho Rios, we did not disembark. Grand Cayman and Cozumel, just like any other beach days. Been there, done that.
Wew are not in any hurry to book another MSC cruise.
SMALL, all bed.
