Took 3 grandsons for Spring Break. It was Spring Break, that says a lot about crowds, lines and slow service. It was expected and didn’t disappoint. The memories made with our grandsons are priceless, the cruise was expensive and just a cruise. I’m normally not one to write negative reviews but the cruise was simply a means to spend quality time with the grandsons. Nothing about the cruise was “over the top impressive” all week. Carnival Hub is a must to communicate on board. $5 each for 5 of us. Works sometimes, but never dependable. Only free movies (outside your cramped cabin) are outdoors at pool. We had 2 ship days that weren’t good weather. IMAX theatre are $12 tickets. Long waits for “anytime dining” and one night when we FINALLY were seated to find table still dirty and only a 4 top. More waits and they treated us like it was our fault. I won’t go on and on here, I am planning to write Carnival about the issues that we experienced. None of this takes away from the fact we made some awesome memories with our three grandsons. That is priceless!

Timing is everything — If you choose Spring Break that’s what you get.

Cabin Review

Balcony
Cabin 8C 8389
Nice to have two connecting rooms and balconies for the 2 older grandsons. Tried to reserve suites last summer when booking but none available. Boys room 8387 had no fridge and when they finally brought one it never worked. I purchased the high end Birthday package ($60) for the youngest. Cake, picture frame (very low quality) and beach towel was delivered. All the hanging decorations never arrived. Cabin steward is most visible last 2 days and especially as you are leaving, I’m guessing looking for additional tips.

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

  • Cozumel
Reefs are beautiful, marine life awesome. Saw two nurse sharks, 6 plus large sea turtles and many varieties of coral and fish. Booked independently for 5 divers. Had two dive masters that were with us every step and made sure we had the greatest of times.

  • Stingray Swim
Hundreds of people at Stingray City. Excursion is just about letting you have a brief experience so they can take photos for you to purchase. Only $50 so that wasn’t as bad as people paid for dolphin experience ($250). We took our GoPro and grandson got some good shots of smaller male stingrays swimming around. Boat didn’t have enough food for everyone to get a chance to feed the stingray one piece. Don’t stand back or you will miss out.

  • Turtle Farm
Interesting place and lots to see and do. You could spend a day there. We had just over an hour. Nice pool, but no time to get in. Lots of things to see, had to skip because of no time. You can snorkel (gear provided, no fins so you are propelling yourself without assistance) the lagoon. It was fun but not a lot of marine life to see. When we were there you needed to go all the way back to the bridge to find the turtles. Ask the lifeguards where they are congregated before you get in. Spend your time wisely!

Docked right next to ship, no transfer was nice. Operators had trouble with signed liability releases and delayed us almost an hour. Finally made everyone sign a second time. Short snorkel time so you can spend more of your time at Margaritaville (spending $$$, not included).
