We read lots of reviews of this ship and committed to keeping an open mind despite some of the poor reviews of service and food on board. Never having cruised before, we didn't have anything with which to compare experiences. By the time we disembarked in Miami, we were convinced that those previous cruisers who whined about lots of things were unfair to Norwegian. We have travelled extensively throughout the world, and lived on three different continents, so we are knowledgeable travellers, just not about cruising. Now, we feel qualified to offer some opinions (below), even though this was just one cruise. ** Embarkation. It was easy. We took Uber to the Port from our hotel, as we arrived in Miami the previous night-- always a smart move when cruising, you don't want to miss the ship because of flight delays on the day of travel. We left our luggage with the curbside porter, already tagged with the ship luggage tags printable online from your edocs. No wait. Walked in, had our edocs and passports ready, and got room keys immediately, even though rooms not ready for a couple hours. **First day on board: After getting room keys, went to the Garden Cafe (the buffet). It was overcrowded, difficult to find seating that day at noon, but we never had problems finding seating in the buffet for the next 6 days. First observation: people are determined to get their "money's worth." I have never witnessed so many overindulging adults scooping mountains of food on their multiple plates, as if this was the last meal you were going to have on board for a week. It was disgraceful how much food was wasted on that first meal of the cruise. We relaxed and had a small meal at the buffet before heading to our stateroom at 3 pm. Announcements were made when cabins were ready. **Stateroom. It was larger than we imagined. Absolutely comfortable in every way, and the bathroom was generous in size, larger than some hotel bathrooms. Apart from some leftover trash in the storage cubicles, it was clean. Met our stateroom attendant. **Dining. What's not to like? We could not comprehend some previous reviewers' complaints about food quality or choices. We are not "foodies", but we have had lots of buffets in our lifetime, as well as restaurant meals, and the Bliss was excellent. Nice layout, awesome food, considering there are over 4000 people on board to serve. We did not eat in any speciality restaurants and glad we didn't . . . . the main dining rooms were fine, the Local was good, and the buffet was simply terrific. Never had waits for seating. **Service. Oh my goodness, every single crew member we encountered were smiling and friendly. Everyone. Again, don't believe other reviews that say the crew was grumpy. We had "friends" on the staff in dining venues, entertainment, guest services, everyone. They remembered our names, which was amazing. Maybe because we understood how how they all worked and recognized them as fellow humans, and not personal "servants." **Drinking. We don't drink, so this was easy . . . no bar interactions. However, we didn't witness long queues at any bar on ship. We did observe that once more, human nature, people try to get their "money's worth." Watching the inebriated folks on ship was not fun. **Entertainment. Awesome. We saw the Jersey Boys twice, they were that good. Saw Havana once, and the Beatles Show twice. Also saw a comedy show. Participated in different activities in the Atrium (didn't buy in to any of the games that cost money). In sum, I'd go again. It was great value. The ship and crew were awesome in every way. Your fellow passengers . . . . well, it's not Norwegian's fault who is on board. In many cases, these folks were just plain rude. But, I can't blame Norwegian for that. Some PhD student in psychology needs to do their dissertation on human nature when put on a ship for seven days with unlimited food and alcohol.
