Il Villa Poggiale. Our villa for the pre-cruise extension.

We chose this cruise because we considered it would be a step up from the typical large ship pandemonium. We wanted adults, few pool games, less hysteria at food buffets and just an overall cleaner, calmer experience. We were not disappointed.

Since we wanted to spend a few days getting used to the time change in advance, we selected the pre-cruise extension - Ultimate Italy. This was three days in the Tuscan hillside with two full days of escorted tours in Florence, Sienna, and San Gimignano. It was worth every penny. It also allowed us to plan for a more relaxed visit when arriving in the Livorno port upon the ship. We would not have to repeat these cities.

There were 30 of us on the pre-cruise extension. We came to know one another and were able to continue those connections on the cruise.

Cabin Review

Cabin Penthouse Veranda

We were originally booked in a Deluxe Veranda. A couple days before our departure we received an email that we had been upgraded to a Penthouse Veranda. We're still not sure why! However, the room was exceptional - a slight size increase from our original choice. There were so many drawers we had several empty. I feel we would have enjoyed the Deluxe Veranda just as much, however the alcohol in the mini bar was an added bonus!
