I am not a person who feels that a vacation should go perfectly. I expects some bumps along the way. In saying this, I am bothered by the bumps that are preventable. The issues that I have detailed below in the 'Cabin Review' were preventable and it is my hope that the creaking room is repaired before others experience sleepless nights on their vacation.

We found the crew as wonderful as ever. Aside from the creaking room, we were looked after very well.

I was quite worried about the entertainment after 4 nights. Post Modern Jukebox was not good. The theater was full when this group started and at least one quarter of the people left the first night before the performance ended and less people showed up for the second night performance. There was only polite clapping during the performances. With the second performance they gave themselves an encore when no one was clapping and people were leaving. Some awkwardly sat down while others just left. One of the singers had an amazing voice. I hope she finds another company. The entertainment got better. There were two dance performance nights and they were very good with well deserved standing ovations. The live orchestra performance to Planet Earth II with the wrap around screen was great. Karen Grainger (female impressionist) was very good.

1) In Room 4057 there was a creaking noise in the wall between the main room and the washroom. When the boat was moving at a faster speed the creaking was quite loud but even on the nights when we moved slowly from one island to another the creaking kept us awake. We noticed that there were numerous wooden wedges between the upper molding and the ceiling. It was obviously an ongoing issue. We called client services and a lady came to our room and talked about how nobody had ever complained about this noise. It was obvious that maintenance had tried to fix the problem and that this noise had been an ongoing issue. The next day carpenters came to the room and sprayed something into the spaces between the molding and the ceiling. I am thinking the spray was silicone. They admitted that this did not fix the problem. They also acknowledged the problem and said it was an annoying noise. They felt that there was something wrong behind the wall and that the wall would need to be removed to fix the problem. It was like sleeping in an old,old farmhouse with shutters on a very windy night. The client service lady was never rude but she would say bizarre things like “I cannot tell the captain to slow down the ship.” I told her that we knew that telling the captain to slow down was not a solution but it was wrong to book this room with the knowledge of this ongoing issue. She offered us a dining night at a specialty restaurant and we refused because we wanted a solution. We needed to rest in the day time when the ship was stopped at islands. She offered us a room on the 1st floor for nighttime for one night. She offered to continue the offer but the transitioning was difficult for our family and this seemed even less than a vacation. We did not feel comfortable leaving all of our valuables in an empty room overnight. She apologized and spoke about how there were no other rooms available. After 4 nights, we just wanted to move on and enjoy our vacation instead of the constant calls asking if the noise had stopped…of course it didn’t magically stop. I hope they fix this for other guests.

2) The Casino was below our room and it seemed that when they made announcements the sound tunneled directly to our room. It was never too late at night…ending at 11. Also, when we sat on our veranda I often smelled cigarette smoke and I figured out why when we were walking on the promenade deck just below our veranda. The Casino was venting the smoke out with a large exhaust fan below our room.

3) There was an obstructed view on our veranda. We knew this and we knew that the price reflected the obstruction. I have posted pictures to help others decide if an obstructed view would work for them. We enjoyed our time on the veranda with the exception of the cigarette smoke).

Port Reviews

St. Lucia

You can go wrong very quickly and end up in a dangerous area when you leave the water taxi area. The people of the island seemed to be living in poverty and there seemed to be hostility to travelers.

Martinique

Toured the rain forest, rum distillery, Mount Pelee viewing, organic banana plantation and beach opportunity.

Barbados

Nice boardwalk for those who want to stretch their legs and enjoy the island.
