This was our first time on a Norwegian cruise but it will probably be our last. The ship itself is clean and laid out well. The food is very good and the service personnel are friendly and good at their jobs. If that were all my review was based on I would give a rating of 5, but unfortunately all of the cons start jumping out at you. To start with we were two and a half hours late leaving port and that was a harbinger of the entire trip. Let me give a few examples:
We were late arriving in Belize City so a Carnival ship had already arrived and we were told we would have to wait on them before the tenders could start transporting us to the city. That was a two to three hour wait. To top it off, the way they planned the disembarkation they had people with shore excursions lasting only one to three hours carried to shore before those of us who had purchased a shore excursion through NCL that would last between six and seven hours. Needless to say it was rush rush rush and when we arrived back at the pier we were rushed right on the tender because it was the last one and it was waiting on us. We had no time to stop in any shops right there to purchase souvenirs. That is what I mean by atrocious management, I've never had another cruise line manage things this poorly. If they had arrived on time we would have had more time, If they had taken into consideration the amount of time the ships sponsored shore excursions would take and tender us accordingly we would have more time as well. There was also issues like when we went to eat at a restaurant that the NCL app said "there is no reservations allowed" but when we arrived we were asked if we had a reservation, when my wife showed the hostess the app she said they just changed that day to require reservations. This type of thing went on and on.
Unless Norwegian makes some changes we will not cruise with them again and can't, with a clear conscience recommend them.
The cabin was nice.
It is an NCL private island but everything costs extra.
