We chose this ship as it was relatively small. 48 maximum. We flew to Baltra from Quito and landed at 9 am. We were met from the plane and put in a private waiting area where we were given soft drinks and snacks. We then realised there were only a handful of us waiting. We were told after two hours the main plane load had been delayed and wouldn’t arrive till late afternoon. We were in effect trapped in an airport lounge. We understood the ship was anchored there. Eventually, at about 11.30 we all begged to at least go and wait on the ship. We were then taken to the ship for lunch and a delightful zodiac trip. The ship was very ‘tired’ in appearance due to it very shortly being due to be decommissioned . There was a lovely al fresco dining area on the fourth floor and an indoor dining room on the third floor. A communal seating area and a functional lounge. Wifi doesn’t exist except when you are near Santa Cruz. The crew can tell you when you are likely to pick up a signal. We have an elite stateroom . This was a slightly largely cabin, with windows and away from engine noise and heat. It was acceptable but again tired. The blinds hung off the window, the television didn’t work, the towels were like sand paper ! But we slept well and had a view which the lower cabins didn’t have. The food was good. A varied selection. It was nice that everyone moved around and sat with different people each meal time. Water was available all the time. Any drinks could be asked for at anytime. Tea and coffee were always available in the reception. Days were busy and active for us. At some point in the evening we were told the options for the next day. Usually a long or short walk, a snorkel swim or canoe trip or a zodiac ride. Back for lunch and then similar routine for the afternoon. It was essential to book your options as you left the lounge. An electronic screen showed in the reception area and on the TV in your bedroom to remind you of times, suitable footwear etc. Whether this was a wet or dry landing etc. We always did the long walk and snorkels so can’t comment on other activities. The equipment was in excellent order. You selected mask and snorkel, flippers, wet suit and a bag and kept this all week on a numbered peg outside on the deck. Towels were provided clean each day. These activities were wonderful. The knowledge of the guides was exceptional. They led the groups with confidence. Groups never bigger than 8. We felt the activities tailed off on Thursday so the equipment could be washed for the new arrivals on Friday. We would have liked another snorkel expedition on Friday instead of a giant tortoise farm which we didn’t enjoy. The naturalists were exceptional.very knowledgable, patient and kind.
