We chose the Conquest because friends invited us to join them. Embarkation from Ft. Lauderdale was quick and easy. First thing we noticed after boarding was how dirty the windows and floors in the eating areas were. This ship is in need of a major renovation. Chaise lounges around pool area had threadbare cushions and stains. Decor throughout ship was aged and worn.
Our balcony cabin was comfortable and quiet. We were on the forward port side Lido deck and the views were amazing. Cabin steward was very friendly and did a great job.
We got stuck with the late (8:00 pm) seating time for the dining room. We tried to get it changed to the early time but no dice. Food was good, service was great and we ended up going there three nights. I should add that we purchased the beverage package which was a value for us but the constant barrage of paper receipts got old. We also dined at the steak house one night and the meal was very good. It was a shame that the place was nearly empty. Biggest surprise was the first formal night or whatever they call it on Carnival. It seemed like 90% of the passengers dressed up. The last two cruises I was on in the last year (Holland & NCL) it seemed that hardly anyone dressed up. For breakfast and lunch we stayed with the buffet which I would say was average at best although the burger bar was great.
