We just returned from an eleven-day Caribbean cruise on the Serenade of the Seas, and although we’ve taken 17 previous cruises (15 on RCCL), this ranks as one of our favorites. First, the weather was perfect and we had little to no rain and perfectly calm seas the entire cruise! The ship is beautiful and easy to get around on. We were in a forward stateroom on Deck 4 and never had a problem getting to any venue or event (even took the stairs to Deck 11 for Breakfast and Lunch in the Windjammer!) Of the ports visited, Ponce, Puerto Rico; St. George’s, Grenada; and St. John’s, Antigua were our favorites. In Ponce, we booked a two-hour walking tour with Isla Caribe. In Grenada, we took the Discovery Train around the city and port area and in Bridgetown, Barbados, we visited the Mount Gat Rum Welcome Center. Though not booked with RCCL, we would highly recommend any of these tours. As to the ship, highlights include the Headliner Shows in the Tropical Theater, our cabin steward, our waiter and asst. waiter in the Main Dining Room, the mini golf on Deck 13, the live music for dancing in the Centrum and other locations, the Slot Pull with our Meet & Mingle group and the Indian foods served in the Windjammer during lunch. One surprise that we thoroughly enjoyed was the movie theater (Cinema) on Deck 6. It seats 40 guests and showed some fairly recent movies that we’d missed seeing. As to things that were average (or less) when compared to other cruises were the onboard activities (not very many and the staff wasn’t enthusiastic), the production shows in the theatre, the Diamond Lounge (overcrowded at night) and the menu served in the Main Dining Room (they’ve scaled it back considerably from previous cruises). Also, the ship’s crew did little to discourage passengers from saving seats around the pool deck and in the Solarium. We would frequently search for two seats together only to find blue towels laid out, but very few people sitting in them. People also saved seats in the theatre and the ship did little to prevent it. Would we sail on the Serenade again? Definitely, Yes!
Small, but plenty of closet and storage space. Perfect for a couple who are out enjoying the ship and ports during the day.
We walked around town on our own.
Beautiful city to walk around in.
