Holland America Westerdam Review March 14-21, 2010 By Coley from Maine

We had a very nice cruise with Holland America, sailing to Grand Turk, Grand Cayman and Cozumel.

Due to rough conditions, The Captain cancelled our stop at Half Moon Cay on our first day out, which was fine with us. It's always nice to start a cruise with a day at sea. So relaxing and timeless, stress free, a perfect way to unwind for a week of vacation. As always, the ship's employees were wonderful. The food was great , though the Pinnacle Grill could use improvement. Having every interaction with the waitress begin with "Madam-Sir" got a little old. The food there wasn't quite what it should be and one table near us had meat sent back. Elsewhere, especially the Lido for breakfast and lunches, the food was great and the service perfect. Yes, as we've read, there are no trays anymore in the Lido. A minor inconvenience to be sure, but consider the huge waste we always see when so much food looks so good with so many options. With trays we all tend to take a little more than we end up eating. I bet Holland America is thinking this, (and not trying to save money by not having to wash the trays, as someone has suggested). They probably will save huge by encouraging you to fill your plate if you like, and come back for more as often as you like, but just not taking three plates when you go through for the first time. If so, that's ok with me, and it's really a shame to see all the food that typically gets wasted . Something to think about as you are sailing around Haiti on your way to Margaritaville.
