We were looking for a honeymoon cruise that we could drive to and still have warm weather. Since we live in Southern California, the Mexican Riviera fit the bill. Boarding was a breeze. We parked across the street from the ship and were on board in no time. Check -in was efficient and stress-free. The Ruby was recently updated and it showed. The ship was immaculate and looked very modern despite her age. Kind of like me. The ship's layout was typical however we still found ourselves on the wrong end of the ship from where we wanted to be. No big deal. It made for more excercise. Our balcony cabin was spotless and functional. The only complaint was the unusually small shower with a curtain rather than a door. The bed was comfortable and the "congratulations " sign with balloons on our cabin door was a nice touch. Dining was a mixed bag. Being a "fishetarian" (no meat, fowl or shellfish) my needs are not typical. That aside, the food in the main dining room was overall excellent with several interesting vegetarian choices at every meal. The buffet was another story. The choices were very limited and the food not good at all. My wife who is not vegetarian agrees with that assessment. The entertainment was pretty good, especially the comedian who performed twice. The activities were mostly income producing I.e. Bingo , art auction etc. Not much of interest to either of us. Probably the weakest aspect of the cruise especially with 3 days at sea. There was a nice gym, The pool was freezing cold so it was usually empty of adults. The kids don't seem to mind cold water. Probably neurological system not yet fully developed. While the cabin staff were all very pleasant, the dining staff while polite, were not for the most part, friendly at all. Service was very slow causing us to miss several shows. We did anytime dining and most of the time had ti wait 30 minutes to be seated. We toured all ports on our own so no comments on the ship's tours. Tours are not our thing. All in all a good trip. With a few changes, it could be a great trip.
