We have gone on almost a dozen cruises and this one was a disappointment. We thought such a large ship would have nice amenities but it was just the opposite. Bigger is definitely not better. Long lines for embarkation with busses dropping people off by the line where they just merged while others had been standing in line a long time. The cabin set up was not good. There was a shower just to the right as you walked in and across the small hall to the left was the toilet. Both had round sliding glass doors. There was a sink next to the shower. I don't know how large people even got into the toilet room. I could sit on the couch and rest my foot on the wall on the other side of the room. On our last cruise with Holland America, there was a nice sized bathroom that even had a tub in it. Another thing is that there were only two sets of elevators, one on each end, where on all the other smaller cruise ships they had THREE sets, including one in the middle, which made getting around a lot easier. The ship holds about 4600 people plus crew and staff. There were lines for EVERYTHING! The first day we got in line for dining at 6:23. Got to the head of the line at 6:40. Then we found out we'd been in the line for those waiting for reservations and they gave us a buzzer and said it would be at least another 30 minutes more. We looked all over the ship to find a place to sit. The only chairs were at the bar area where you had to buy a drink, at the slots or gaming tables where you had to gamble, and a few seats in a loud entertainment area. We finally located a window seat and drug over some hard back wooden chairs. At 7:17 the buzzer rang. But alas, it was only to be in another line. At 7:24 we were finally seated and looking at a menu. The service was slow. We didn’t get out until 9:00. Even with long lines, the evening meal was the best thing on the ship, although much to our disappointment, we were informed that they had stopped serving lobster two years ago. There was NO comfortable seating in quiet areas where people could go to visit like there have been on all the other ships we've been on. There were no laundry facilities, which is hard on a long voyage. The venues for entertainment were very small for the number of people onboard, so they must have decided to manage that by CHARGING for the nice shows to weed people out. They also charged for movies on the TV. It was as if planning on the ship layout and the organization of the ship had been an annoying afterthought. Cabins were small and strangely laid out and it seemed as if they were trying to stuff as many people as possible on the ship while minimizing the areas for entertainment, swimming facilities, and quiet seating areas. We saw a hypnotist, but the venue was in a bar and people were on high chairs and it was difficult to even see what was going on. It wasn't fair for the performer. Long lines were everywhere. People we talked to said they'd never use this cruise line again. Everything was open seating at the restaurant, so there was not a consistent connection with those who served us so no relationships could be formed. We will be cruising again, but not with this cruise line. We did love the view from our balcony and the excursions were fun and interesting.
