Overall we were not disappointed. We enjoyed our 11 day cruise (longest cruise we have taken so far) though the Caribbean January 2019. We were able to upgrade our room with the bidding feature which was a nice option to have. We were able to get a Spa Balcony room with access to the Thermal Spa for less per person than is charged for Thermal Spa Access. Fast forward to embarkation day: Easy navigation through the cruise terminal with quick security checkpoint. The process of checking in and getting ID cards was a breeze. Our Spa Balcony Room was nicely appointed and our room steward Karena was AWESOME! We typically do not book excursions through the cruise line, so I cannot give any information on that, but we enjoyed all but one of the stops.
Highlights:
1. Room and steward
The cabin was nicely appointed with plenty of storage space. The bed was larger than a queen, but not quite a king size- reasonably comfortable.
We did a discover scuba course and it was by far the highlight of our trip! We have already made plans to finish up the certification courses so we can dive regularly on our next trips.
Booked through Lobster Pot Dive Center, our instructor James was phenomenal. We felt very comfortable with him and we had the time of our lives!
We took a private tour to the Blue Hole and then our driver took us for some jerk chicken and to a small beach. Levi was our tour guide with Dr. Fun Tours and we had a great time! Highly recommend. Better than Dunn's Falls and WAY less crowded.
We booked an excursion to Little French Key. Much less crowded than the cruise excursion to Big French Key and great service! We opted for the VIP pass and had a great time!
We rented a kayak and went through the "mangrove" as it was called. Nothing exciting, but something to do. We ended up going back to the ship and spending most of the day on the ship.
We booked a 4 hour fishing trip and caught some Barracuda. Our guide then took us back to the beach and made fresh ceviche for lunch. We enjoyed it and will be returning to Costa Maya. The 40 Canoes resort was beautiful and I believe you can purchase a day pass to enjoy the beach at the resort.
We rented a dune-buggy with a guide who took us around the island. The best part of the trip was the shack on the beach he took us to with fresh mojitos and great shrimp tacos.
