We choose this cruise because of the destination - to make a full transit of the Panama Canal. Additionally, our travel agent was able to find us a pre-cruise option to go to the New Years Day 2019 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, CA prior to going on the cruise.
The NCL Star was the perfect ship for us as we are very low - maintenance cruisers I guess. We did not want a big ship, we wanted to just relax and do what we wanted to do. So Free-Style Cursing on the NCL Star worked very well for us. Can't say enough good things on the just plain Excellent food, entertainment, accommodations we chose, or most importantly of all the service we received from the entire staff and crew. The shore excursions we choose were all very good and well worth the price we thought. However,we could see adding a port - of - call after the Panama Canal (we sailed west to east btw), and dropping one of the ports - of - call before going through the Canal. Having a stop in Panama itself would have been interesting.
We did not travel with children, and were looking for a itinerary, ship and time of sailing that would not have a lot of kids on it.
Yes, we would most certainly sail on Norwegian Cruise Lines again....and we will!
Our cabin chooice was just the right one for us. I would not go smaller, and perhaps go and move up to a full Suite if we were to do another long sailing. Since this was our first cruise ever, we have nothing else to compare it to, but we thought our cabin was very nice and perfect for us and our needs. Our cabin steward was excellent as well!
Very good. Got a lot of great shots. The guide was most helpful, professional and friendly. This was a very small group of folks on this excursion and we came out of it making some very good friends we met on it.View All undefined undefined Reviews
Neat to see. Can't saw anywhere is Middle Latin America is my cup of tea, but it was worth seeing,.....once.
The excursion we took, (to see a an active volcano at a national park) was excellent. We quite enjoyed ourselves. However, even though the tour bus accommodations were fine, the drive through the rest of the countryside was pretty 3rd world and depressing. Plus we really did not feel greatly safe, esp. with all the police we saw running around with automatic weapons at the ready.
It was great!! No better place to Zip-Line than through a Rain Forest in the middle of a Rain Forrest downpour! FYI, the tour description described this activity as a level 2, but in reality it was more like a Level 3 -4. Some rough terrain had to be negotiated on foot to get between Zip Line stations.View All 39 Zip-Lining Reviews
Informative, but I would not do it again. The street vendors were a continual problem and thick as flies on dog poop! They (street vendors) kinda really ruined the whole trip in this city for us.View All 367 City Tour Reviews
