We love to cruise on the small luxury ships - Silversea, Regent, Seabourn (no children!) and this was our first time on Viking primarily due to the time of year and the destination. We were truly impressed and we are hard to please. We booked a Penthouse Jr. Suite vs our typical veranda suite due to the 16 day trip. The dual vanities, heated floors in the bath was a great use of space and the room had enough space to be comfortable. I thought we would miss the walk-in closet we had on other ships, but it wasn’t an issue, especially because bathroom was a much better use of space. We also took full advantage of the free laundry and dry cleaning. A very nice perk. We have never eaten in a buffet restaurant on any other ship, it’s never good and we like to be served.... However, one night we didnt feel like getting “ready” for dinner so we ate at the buffet restaurant (the World Cafe) and it was great - so much so that we ate there several more times. The chefs in the World Cafe are in the kitchen freshly preparing the food as items get low and there is a chef who makes fresh to order Asian noodles at night or pasta during the day. I could also not say more about the bakery. It was second to none vs. any other ship we have ever been on. It’s fresh at every meal and thrown out in between. The pool has a retractable glass roof which makes the space usable rain or shine and there are cushioned lounge chairs that line the perimeter of the ship giving you a full view of the sea while you are relaxing on sea days. We are not excursion people so don’t have anything to say on that other than feedback from others we met on board indicates this is Viking’s short coming. We will definitely be booking Viking Ocean again.
