Overall, 14 day Hawaii from Long Beach was a great time. We thought the 8 full days would be too long at sea, but it was nice to see the full ship and experience things that we hadn't before due to time restrictions.
The ship's design is not very good. The decor is very garish and worn down. There was what looked like mold on the roof of one deck.
The main pool was closed more days than it was open. This is due to all the activities on the Lido deck. Why would ballroom dance lessons be conducted beside the pool? There were quite a few other areas that were never used at all.
The food was blah. Not a great selection. If you didn't like the dish offered, there was only pizza as an alternative, as all the dining areas offered the same menu for that night. The burger/hotdogs stand was only open a few hours a day, so that wasn't an option either.
Overall a good vacation.
Do not get a room on deck 8. Nothing but the chairs scratching above you, or the pounding of feet on your head.
Other than the really long walk up to the ship, this was a good experience. We had a transfer from the airport to Long Beach. As we were early, we had to wait a while before getting on the ship, but were able to check in as soon as we got off the bus.
Rented a car, and drove around. Very easy to get around, and the multiple beaches and sights were wonderful.
Very busy city. Waikiki beach is a 10-minute ride away from the port. There were also free shuttles to shopping. Very convenient and easy to get around.
We were not able to go to Kona at all. The ocean swells were too bad to take the tenders. We stayed in Honolulu another day after the ship moved to a different pier. This pier was much better than the first one. Pier 11 has shops etc right outside the secured area. It was also close to the Palace if you wanted to walk. We took a cab to the beach and stayed there all day.
Free shuttle to walmart, or other shopping areas, and downtown. Very nice place. We grabbed a taxi and went to Richardsons Beach. This is a black sand beach, and an inlet is there where the Turtles come in. There were 3 green turtles when we were there. Best day!
What you would expect from a Mexico town. Street vendors every 2 steps plus the shop workers all trying to get you to buy from them. Just a nice No Thank You would discourage them. The bus to shopping strip was $4usd round trip, or a 1/2 hour walk.
The port there is very nice. Seals were sunbathing on the rocks. There is a large Mexican flag and fountain park area just beside the port.
