We prefer Viking because it's a smaller ship with fewer people, thereby allowing us to become acquainted with staff and passengers. The price is all inclusive so we're not being nickel-dimed for every items. Viking emphasizes service and customer relations, a winner for any business. Our cabin was meticulously cleaned daily. The menu choices were so varied that my wife and I each enjoyed our individual preferences. We even got to know the entertainers rather well and will root for them as they pursue their careers. The included shore excursions were always well-organized and, while the skills and knowledge of local guides predictably varied, many interesting sites were visited. Frankly, the cruise director generally makes the difference and we've had great ones on both cruises. There are always things to nitpick but the bigger picture is that Viking worked hard to ensure we again had a pleasant cruise - and we did!
Didn't learn much except step foot on Algerian land. Haven't been in such a controlled situation since visiting East Germany in 1983 with USA sports team. Would have been nice to have lunch and shop there but perhaps politics prohibited that at this time.
