I have always wanted to do a Mediterranean cruise. I have cruised with Viking before and knew they wouldn't disappoint. However, this cruise was a huge disappointment. If you don't purchase the extra excursions, you will be bored. The port stops are underwhelming. Barcelona was great. Montpellier was nothing special. Marseille was fun to wander around. We paid for the Nice and Monte Carlo excursion and it was a waste of money. We loved the Tuscany to Pisa tour, our guide was amazing! We paid for the Wine and Merenda tasting. It was over sold, freezing cold and extremely chaotic. The hosts were lovely but it wasn't the best experience. We didn't realize we had to pay to get into Florence. We thought it was included and it was sold out when we realized it. Thus, we ended up going into Livorno, which was another boring port town. I was not expecting to spend most of my time on the boat because of the underwhelming port towns. I expected more culture and interesting excursions. The service in the World Cafe was impeccable. We loved the sushi and crab leg dinners. However, in the restaurants it was not good. We would sit down to dinner and tell the staff we had food allergies. Instead of making sure we had something to drink, water, they would walk away from us to get our menu. This meant we sat for 10-15 minutes just waiting. No drinks, no water, nothing! The worst experience was in the Chef's Table. We sat down and waited for 10 minutes for someone to come and greet us. Then, we waited another 15 for them to come back to us with drinks. We also didn't get any service in the Torshaven. The common areas were full and we ended up just going back to our room often. Tea time was chaotic too. I just was not really happy with our experience. The staff in the World Cafe was amazing. Our room attendant was very kind and brought ice every time. In summary, our experience was just OK. Not amazing but just ok.
