This was our first time on a Holland America ship. We had heard good things about HAL and thought the Koningsdam would appeal to us because of the musical theme of the ship.

We were not disappointed. The ship is lovely and the staff is very friendly and provide great service. The food was very good and in some cases exceptional, though there were a few misses. Our fellow passengers were an older group, most probably over 60 or 70 years old. There were few young people or families with young children.

We had a balcony cabin near the front of the ship and I think we used the balcony much more than on other cruises. It was large and one of the chairs converted to a chase with a pull out foot rest. The cabin itself was small, but had lots of storage area. The bed and bedding were great! The bathroom was fine and the shower was very nice.
