  • Destination: the Eastern Caribbean

We chose this cruise for our honeymoon as it started in the Mediterranean and sailed across the Atlantic to the Caribbean.

Can honestly say it was the best holiday of my life, however it was my first ever cruise so I have nothing to compare it to. We had an inside cabin on deck 4 which was quite small but I wasn't expecting any larger and we barely spent any time in the room anyway. The cabin was kept pristine by our cabin steward Isaac who was fantastic. There was a TV and coffee / tea making facilities. Shower wasn't great, kept going between hot and cold on the same settings, we didn't complain about this at the time but in hindsight that might have helped. At the time we just put up with it. Didn't get a great sleep on the beds either, they weren't uncomfortable but I think I was missing my own mattress.

Plenty of choice for food and every restaurant we went to served great food, even in the marketplace (buffet style). Loved latitude and vista for our dinners, went to surf and turf once but didn't try other speciality restaurants. Loved having lunch in the Mediterranean, their pasta was lovely.

Boat was a good size and there was always plenty to do around the boat which was important during our 6 sea days. They even put on some tournaments over the 6 days like shuffleboard and table tennis which was nice. Went to a couple of the shows and they were good, the cast seemed really professional, loved the movies show and had a few guest comedians which was up my street. Put off the pool deck as it was always really busy and I can't swim anyway. There was no children on our cruise but looked as though there was plenty there for kids.

Service was generally good, sometimes meals and drinks were a bit slow but all the staff on board were really helpful and I have no complaints about any of them.

All ports were great and had plenty to do, went on a couple of excursions organised by TUI, tour guides were very knowledgeable and made sure we had a great time.

Came off this cruise and immediately wanted to book another, so we've booked a baltic cruise in July for the same ship. Can't recommend highly enough. Thankyou to all the staff who made it exceptional.

Note - This cruise was perfect for myself and my husband as it was slightly more casual than expected, for those that prefer luxury cruises, this was luxurious by my standards but from what I've heard from experienced cruisers this was not as formal as others.

Cabin Review

Cabin inside 4168

Small but kept well clean by cabin steward, sufficient space for needs.

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

Palma de Mallorca (Majorca)

didn't see any of the port, only had time to get on ship.

Madeira (Funchal)

Loved Funchal, would go back for a week. Got a ticket for the hoho bus, went on the cable car and wicker toboggans which definitely shouldn't be missed. Steep climb back down to the town where we got back on the bus and visited a fishing village, "camara de lobos". There was so much we didn't get the chance to do, if returning i will definitely book a whale watching excursion.

Went to the alcazaba and gibralfaro, both were great. Lots of walking involved, lots of stairs if walking up but i think the hoho bus takes you to these stops if limited mobility.

Didn't have much planned for this port, so when we got into port we got past all the people waiting to take you in taxi tours and walked for a bit before turning back to get a taxi tour. The tour only lasted an hour and he drove us around the whole island, tried some fruit which was nice but there wasn't an awful lot to see or do if you're not a beach fan.

again the port was filled with people who were wanting to take you in taxi's so need to make your way past them, once you tell people no they don't hassle you. We were on a tour, started by taking us to a viewpoint for photos, then stopped at a shack on the side of the road to try 10 different rum and liqueurs, which is great. Next major stop is a viewpoint for the pitons which you climb up, however the view was ruined by the torrential november rain. Did eventually manage to get a view of both pitons but it was short lived. Then went to the waterfall which was very pretty. The tour also included food which was mainly traditional carribean food, and was all very tasty. Got to stay on the beach for about an hour then headed back to the cruise.
