After reading so many bad reviews, I felt compelled to share our experience. Are there issues, yes. Are they deal breakers, for us the answer is no.
I apologize in advance for the length of the review. Please ask if you have any questions.
Our group of 9 ranged in age from 9 to 55 and in cruise experience from 0 to 12 previous cruises. We book Norwegian for its balance of amenities to value. This was all of our first time on a large ship. Six of us drove south from Minnesota. The night before the cruise we stayed in Hammond LA, about an hour’s drive from the port.
All of us had balconies on deck 9. One stateroom was an angled balcony, which was really nice to have! The staterooms were typical size. I really like the bathroom layout compared with the Jewel class ships. It feels bigger for some reason. I agree with the complaints about lack of storage, especially with three people. The drawers under the couch aren’t very usable especially when it is made into a bed. The closet is difficult to get into because it is blocked by the couch. I found the shelves more difficult to keep organized than when there are drawers. Also, not enough outlets!
ATV to Jade Caverns with Wild Tours. One of the favorites from this trip, fun tour with good guides, good value. They were accommodating with a change in meet up points.
Our first time and we were happier than we expected. Food and drinks weren’t as expensive as anticipated, especially if you got happy hour specials at the kiosk instead of ordering from the waiters on the beach. One downside is that it isn’t nice white sand on the beach.
We went to Blue Hole and Dunn’s River Falls. Both were good to do once. I don’t think we’d go back. Dunn’s River is very commercialized.
Through Aquarius tours, we did Stingray City and snorkeling. Captain Mario was excellent and they give you the photo for free. This was our second time to Stingray City and we would do it again.
Transportation to snorkeling beach and day pass to Paradise Beach resort. Love this beach for snorkeling despite aggressive vendors. We’ve been to this specific resort at least three time but I’d try to find a different resort in the future. The facilities have not been well maintained and the food is expensive.
Mayan ruins with Native Choice. Good, very informative guide. Good to do once but probably wouldn’t do again.
