NCL made our vacation so enjoyable. We chose this ship specifically to vacation for the first time on a mega-ship, as frequent NCL cruisers. We wanted a ship that was current and not refurbished with an itinerary of at least seven days from USA. We were especially excited to experience The Haven, an area we previously could not afford on smaller Norwegian ships due to the price structure. This is constructive feedback about what stood out to us on the Escape re: our experiences, on board restaurants/food, pool, entertainment: • Elevators should announce the next floor to stop on (like on other NCL ships) • Main pool is small • Smoke (cigarette/cigar) from casino consistently impacted the mini-atrium (outside Le Bistro) and the art gallery area. Better ventilation is needed. This has never been a problem on previous NCL ships. • Good to have separate smoking area on Deck 19 for Haven guests. • The hot tubs in The Haven were comfortable. The jets on both tubs and the hot tub on deck 19 for The Haven guests do not stay on for more than 5 minutes; had to keep pressing the button. The jets timer needs increasing. • Le Bistro and La Cucina were both not as great as previously experienced on other NCL ships (e.g., Pearl). Both specialty restaurants were small and crowded so it was quite noisy the evening we ate at each. The food did not meet expectations. While our waiter was attentive and apologetic, service (for a specialty restaurant) was slower at both restaurants. The Haven restaurant was much better • Cagney’s Steakhouse did not let us down – it was wonderful! • The Freestyle Daily listed many activities, of which we participated. Unfortunately, this is the first cruise ship that did not offer Zumba classes. The gym has a great space where Yoga and TRX classes are held. This is the space for Zumba or maybe the main stage of the theater! • Gym – no place fill up water bottles. Sign above water fountain and below towels reads DO NOT FILL UP WATER BOTTLES HERE. When asking staff, they did not offer an alternative place. Remove the sign or add a water fountain for water bottles. • Such a great idea to offer snacks in The Haven pool deck/courtyard. Please change snack offerings to including granola bars, packs of nuts. The baked breads were delicious. Seeking alternative to gummy bears and M&Ms. • The staff in The Haven were phenomenal – concierge, room steward, butler, restaurant, bar, and courtyard/pool staff! The staff were very attentive to cleaning the ship while in port. • The main theater is smaller – we are used to a 2-floor theater and “box seats.” Pleased The Haven had reserved rows.Good to have thin colorful lights illuminated, otherwise theater is quite dark. • Atrium television screen displays wrong colors when a laptop is projecting images. This impacted Flag Trivia. Maintenance needs to adjust this. When watching movies on same screen color appeared correct. o All trivia games held in the main atrium were fun and enjoyable! • Best Shows – After Midnite, Flatboys [Supper Club], and Ben Nemetz [Supper Club]. After Midnite was by far one of the absolute best shows on the seas – ever seen on a cruise ship. The Supper Club is a neat concept. o The Brat Pack (For the Record) was a complete let down. The band, theme and staging were great but the execution was horrible. The actors had no connection to their character which lead no connection from the audience. While we stayed for the entire show, we have never seen so many patrons walk out of the theater mid-show. This show should be replaced with something on the After Midnite caliber. o Jim Badger [The District]. We saw Jim on the Pearl where he did his nightly show in the lounge outside Le Bistro. He continues to be hilarious and interacts with the audience so well. Whenever he was performing, we made it a point to visit for a bit. No matter how often we heard his jokes/one-liners, we laughed each time. We were extremely disappointed he was not performing the last night of the cruise due to a schedule mix up. o Each of the comedians at Headliners each night did a short set; shows lasted 45 minutes from beginning to end. The 18+ shows should at least be 1 hour. Neat space.
