Cabin: Suite with Balcony

We like to go to the Caribbean for some sunshine and have done so for several years with P&O.

Earlier in the year we also cruised on Arcadia to New York and Eastern Canada booking for the first time a suite, which was excellent a real joy, so when on this cruise we were offered an upgrade from mini suite to a suite ( at an extra but reasonable cost) we thought great, the choice was limited but we chose C750, which is at the rear of the ship. We were aware that as in all cases upgrades will not be for the most ideal cabins, in this case the balcony has a large stanchion obstructing the right hand side. Being aware we were prepared so on entering the suite, we found it to be quite large and spacious and set out very different from Arcadia suites. We were surprised to find that the the shower and whirlpool bath was separated from the toilet but thought and indeed found, there were advantages in this. The disappointment was that there in no provision whatsoever for your toiletries, no shelves no cupboards etc so had to store them in the main room . The main room was large, spacious, plenty of drawers, large dressing table plus a large desk. The bed was great plus you could ask your butler for a choice of pillows. The wardrobe was adequate in a small but walk in cupboard.

The balcony however was more obstructed than we thought it would be, not only did it encompass one large stanchion on the right hand side blocking the sliding doors by the bedside, but it also encompassed the major part of another on the left side. There were two steamers but in truth only one was usable, plus a table and two chairs rather cramped. So if you go for a suite with a great balcony, do not chose this one. I am appraised that C751 is exactly the same.

In general the room itself was great very comfortable, loads of room, well cared for plus nothing too much trouble for the friendly and helpful butler.

The service was great and overall we really enjoyed the cruise.

Azura is a family ship and appears to cater well for young children, unfortunately not all parents take control of their off-spring more noticeable around the family pool where the no jumping and diving signs tend to be ignored, so best kept away from and Caribbean cruises seem to attract a wide variety of people from different backgrounds.

If you like to be served and looked after at meal times, all meals can be taken in a restaurant, where the service is good and the menu caters for all tastes. P&O are particularly good if you have any allergies or food intolerance's.

P&O uses British currency so you are not subject to the vagaries of exchange rates, which helps to keep bar prices within a reasonable level.

Shore excursion prices are quite pricey, so you need to do a little bit of research.

All in all I have enjoyed cruising on AZURA and as with everything in life, there will always be some niggles here and there, after all P&O is not Cunard.
