This was our 15th Fun Ship cruise, but we hadn't sailed with it since Jan. 2017. We did not like the Triumph at all and once it left Galveston, we had already booked cruises on other lines. Embarkation was ok. We had an assigned time for 11:30m - 12 and a few minutes into it they called for open boarding. Kinda ruined the idea of it. After four Holland America and two Disney cruises, we decided to try Carnival again since we are platinum members and we do get some nice perks. We didn't like the entertainment or lack of it on Holland and Disney is not a regular out of Galveston We sprang for a suite which we'd never done before, but after paying for suites on Holland, it was cheap and there is a reason for it. You don't get near the perks and the cabins aren't as nice or big. But still it is a Fun Ship and we had a great time. There wasn't a single night that we didn't have several fun things to do. We love the Comedy Club and so watched at least one show every night and sometimes two. Matt, the cruise director, is the best I've ever seen and this was our 40+ cruise overall. The food was good and there is so much more variety available during the evening than on Holland. We are 62 and 72 and still love the Fun Ships. The Vista atrium is amazing and the entire ship was clean and the staff friendly and polite. There are few things we didn't like and only one that we truly hated. The main show stage seating is the worst I have ever seen. The designer should be set back to school. There are so many dead zones that probably 20 percent of the folks chose to stand in the back instead of sit in available seats. It was horrible. And it was such a shame because the shows were fantastic if you had a good seat. The seating in the comedy club center section is worn and broken down. You can understand why when you see 250+ pound folks falling into the chairs instead of sitting in them, but never the less, they need to be replaced. And the seating in the piano bar around the walls slants downward toward the floor and so is uncomfortable. The chairs are fine. The piano player was very entertaining and could sing AND play the piano. The Farmer's Band duo from Canada was really good, even though it didn;t get especially popular locations. Enjoyed its country and western. We got bad service a couple of times at Red Frog Pub and the bar aft deck 5 before the elevators. Buffet food was good, as was our two dining room experiences. Guy's burgers are always a hit, but his barbque left alot to be desired. The brisket was good, but can't say anything nice about any of the rest of it. The meat was cold, the potato salad and beans had no flavor and the barbeque sauce we thought was horrible. There is plenty of seating in the buffet and if you walk around, you probably won't have to stand in much of a line. Luckily, there are people who see a line and will stand in it without ever checking out the other side. Our excursion in Cozumel was meeting the locals and I wish more had participated. We joined five people from Carnival Magic which was in port with us for it. It was a inciteful and the meal was delicious. Belize is not worth the tender ride unless you take an excursion. Roatan trip to Gumbalinda Park was fun. It's hot and humid, but the monkeys and macaws made it worth it. We didn't know it, but there was a beach we could've used, also. Disembarkation for suite and platinum members should be great. We got off before 8 am and got our bags, but there were no porters to help us. They were busy unloading the ship and so we waited about 45 minutes before we could get help. This incluced the people iin wheel chairs, which is really tacky of Carnival. I am looking at booking a cruise for October and another in late Jan or Feb of 2020 on Vista.

Cabin Review

Ocean Suite
Cabin OS 7383
You're not paying much, but you don't get much compared to other cruise lines. The room was bigger than a balcony and it did have separate closets, but it is still the standard Carnival orange colors. There is a double sink in the restroom and it has a jetted tub, but it is quite a long step up into it from the floor. I would much rather have a shower than a tub that is difficult to use.
Our room steward, Michelle, was excellent. It was almost like it used to be when you walked out of your room for breakfast and it was clean when you got back. She did a great job watching our comings and goings and learning our routine ,so that she was spot-on 95 percent of the time.
