My husband and I travel with our friends typically the week over New Years. We did lots of research and decided to try a cruise on NCL Getaway. I have been on one previous NCL cruise over 10 years ago with no issues so we thought based on reviews this would be a good choice. We travel a lot and are pretty laid back travelers so a rating this low is pretty rare.

The first day and New Years Eve went well. They had lots of fun activities and parties on the ship to ring in the New Year. New Years Day we ported in Hondorous and did a beach day getaway which was good. When we returned to the ship is when the problems started. When they scanned our cards to get back on the ship it gave the error that boarding was denied. The security agent got on the phone and then told us to wait over to the side without telling us what was going on. We were standing there for a good few minutes while other guests getting on the ship were staring at us wondering what was going on and what we did which is exactly what we were wondering too. I then asked the female security agent standing next to us what the problem was and she just asked if we had any issues with guests services which we answered no. She said ok well someone is coming. Then a gentleman shows up gets on the phone and tells us someone else is coming. We still have no idea what is going on. Then another gentleman arrives and tells us we can go to our room. So we just thought there was a glitch or error in the computer system. He then proceeds to follow us to our room though still not telling us what is going on. Once we get to our door he says he needs to go in with us and closes the door. We then notice the sheets are off our bed. He tells they have reason to believe there are bed bugs in our room and they are moving us to another room. He says they will be taking all of our clothes and washing them. We were in swimsuits from the beach day so we asked when we would get our clothes back because we were supposed to go to dinner and a show and they tell us the next morning which is terrible. They also let us know we were getting a $200 spending credit and put in a room of the same category. A few solutions of how to handle this in the future would be to tell us to go to guest services regarding our room when we board not make us wonder and get embarrassed by not being let back on the ship and also offer an upgrade and a better credit considering bed bugs can ruin a vacation between the bites and just the worry of them in your next bed.

Things continued downhill from there with the new room we were put in with the guests next to us. They were extremely inappropriate and loud where I had to call security on them. 45 min after calling security and being back in my bed security knocked on my door to give me an update that it was the room next to me and they were done. Security did not need to knock on my door after I was already up at 4am to give me an update that it was the room next me which I already knew. My advice if they do want to provide an update to do that the next morning, not get me back up out of bed to tell me what I already knew. The next day since this was 2 nights in a row of these guests being loud I went to guest services to ask to be moved to a new room. I also had to ask for the daily $14.50 service charge per person to be waived so that fee didn’t take all of my $200 spending credit for the bed bugs. For the room change guest services told me the only room available was our old room with the bed bugs that they will have to check with housekeeping. We did still have the card of the head of housekeeping due to the bug issue so we called him and explained the issue and that we needed to be moved again. We went to breakfast and then had an upgraded room when we got back. Not sure where this room came from and why we were not put in the upgraded room right out of the gate when the bug issue happened but either way once we moved to this room we had no other room issues which we were grateful for.

Balcony Stateroom

I think the bed bugs pretty much sum up our thoughts on the cabin.
