We had been on the celebration last year and thought it was very good value for money. The itinerary was great for the discovery 2 so thought we would give it a go.

The ship is big and newer than the celebration. Impressive when you arrive.

Luggage delivered to door of cabin with no issue and in a reasonable time. Everything was clean and tidy (I think the only thing I saw which had a bit of mould on was the showers next to the glasshouse pool).

Cabin Review

Cabin Delux with balcony

Towards the back of the ship on starboard side. Reasonable size. Nice seating area with a sofa and table. Plenty of storage - drawers/shelves etc. The balcony is lovely. 2 chairs and a table. Great for sitting out on.

The bathroom is quite small but easy to get around in and plenty of room to shower/use the sink.

Quiet as it’s at the back of the ship with no bars above it. No cabins opposite which I’m sure reduces the noise too.

In all we loved our cabin.

Port Reviews

Grand Cayman (Georgetown)

We organised a trip to sting ray city online with cayman eco adventures. All paid online meaning didn’t have to carry cash. Met at the port. Mini bus to the boat which was comfortable and not over crowded. Went to 3 stops - starfish beach, a reef with good snorkelling and the stingrays. They were superb creatures. We got to feed them and appreciate them.

Havana

The sail in was amazing. I thought that Cuba was going to be a place where I’d return again and again...but then we got off the ship and wondered around and realised that it’s not all as grand as it first appeared. It was just a bit dirty in places and quite poor looking. The money seems to go on all the tourist visitor attractions. We just wondered round on day 1 and had a nice drink with a good view in one of the rooftop bars. Day 2 we had booked a tour with Havana vintage car tours who were excellent - showed us all the main attractions with brilliant explainations. If I had just gone on this car tour I still would have loved Havana but then I wouldn’t have seen all of Havana either. I felt there were nicer ports to have an over night stay.

Cozumel

Brilliant place - so pretty. Loved it. At the port there is a big shopping complex to buy your souvenirs and there’s also a few bars/cafes if you wish (hooters was surprisingly good).

We had tried to get a snorkelling trip but didn’t have any luck via email. Luckily we found someone going the snorkelling trips. Just outside the port follow the road past the hooters to the left (with the sea behind you). We found people with ‘union worker’ on their top doing the snorkelling trips. We got on one right away.

Took us to a few stop - all beautiful and great snorkelling, we saw barracuda, sting ray, a turtle, starfish. Was a great day and they did transport to and from the port. Lobo Marino tours was their name.

Cartagena (Colombia)

Amazing place.

Firstly, the port is my favourite - macaws, anteaters, taucons, flamingoes. It’s lovely!

Do not be put off by the abundance of taxi drivers as you leave the port - all are trying to sell you a tour, if you don’t want it then keep saying no - they were persistent with us! We did our own thing and got a taxi to san Felipe, brilliant views here and cool tunnels to explore. Another taxi into the main town to the clock tower where we entered the walled city - something around every corner, it really is a beautiful place. Plazas, statues, cathedrals, super pretty houses and streets with lush flowers. It was great. We just wondered around checking out whatever took our fancy.
