Sail Date: Feb 2010

We were on the February 28,2010 Spirit Sailing. We had sailed the Jewel 2 years ago; our first on NCL and they won our repeat business. Got a great deal for this Spirit sailing and, to be honest, we were a little concerned about the more-than-normal negative CC comments heading in. There are always issues but I truly believe that some of them became more magnified because many of the January and early Feb. sailings were plagued by poor weather. This is so important for us and I think that, despite some cooler breezes on our At-Sea days, we got some great weather. Ports: Our best two days were an all-day snorkelling excursion in Belize (fabulous) and an outstanding beach day at Nachi Cocum in Cozumel. I`ve yet to find clearer water! Although the weather was nice at Costa Maya, we took the bus over to Mahajual and very much regretted doing it. Constant tourist harassment. We attended to the little port shopping building in Guatamala but did not venture past the port security gate. Food: After our not being impressed with the over-priced Specialty restaurant shenanigans on the Jewel, we stuck with Windows every night on the Spirit. Excellent selection, quality and service. Out of the four of us for the entire week, only one meal was poor (my DW`s) and that was the Tortellini. The buffets for breakfast and lunch were excellent. Entertainment: We took in the Second City and, although quite short, we enjoyed it. Passed on the other theatre things but did enjoy the 70`s dance night. Negatives: Some noisy maintenance during the day in Raffles and on the back deck of the ship where we liked to lounge. In my NCL survey I wrote that I am pissed about the treatment that we recieved regarding the tender process in Belize. This, of course, is because we didn`t book an offshore activity through NCL. We had to wait until those who had booked with NCL, leave first. We booked an all-day snorkelling tour (NCL`s was only part-day). Our tour operator asked us to try and get there early as the Spirit arrives later than the two Carnival ships that were there. I specifically asked at the front desk if they could make an exception and they sent me on a complete runaround - no one seemed to know what the proper procedure could be. With this ridiculous system, we were late and the other snorkel attendees treated us indifferently throughout the day. Next time I would demand an early tender ticket. The only other negative is that we were unable to see the Olympic Gold Medal Hockey Game. Why a cruise line can`t bring in a satelite feed is beyond me! Embarking and disembarking: Excellent except for a fifteen minute wait to walk off with our luggage (apprently this is not normal). We had a great time and will look forward to our next NCL adventure!
