This was a good mix of history and multi-cultural experiences. Accommodations on the Modi were excellent. Dining was wonderful every day, every meal. Menu options were tailored to each area we visited and other choices were equally tasty and well presented. Staff was super nice and very professional. Fellow travelers made for interesting conversations and some have become friends. Tours were really well guided and quite interesting. Would take another Viking Cruise. Viking staff met us at the Budapest airport and we felt in good hands from the first 5 minutes. We had 2 nights in Budapest ahead of embarking - great hotel, right on the Danube, near just about everything. Great location and service.
The ship ran into heavy traffic or fast current along certain segments. The tour director and staff scrambled to reschedule buses and tours 3 times - our experience was great each time like normal schedule.
Cabin immaculately prepared for departure and every day, morning and evening. Spotless! Veranda allowed relaxing watching the countryside glide by. Mini fridge meant our wine or beer was chilled and ready at any time ... We brought on board during stopovers...fruit, wine, snacks. Really handy.
Great views over the Danube and Budapest City. Tour provided useful insights into history and culture.View All 70 The Castle District Reviews
Took a bus ride out to a horse ranch run by a world class equestrian. Beautiful horses displayed what they can do ... Not limited to riding. The cowboys were great, the horses spectacular, and the ride to and from have us some exposure to the region east of Budapest.View All undefined undefined Reviews
Our 2nd time in Vienna. We did Schonbrun palace the first time on our own. Having a guide helped put several things into perspective. After tour of Belvedere palace (which is much better than Schonbrun palace) you get a real every day feel for how the Hapsburgs lived. Then, in your free time, stay and visit the Sisi museum. It has some jaw dropping exhibits and also provides a personal view into Sisi's life as spouse of a Hapsburgs emperor at the height of the empire's power.View All 29 Belvedere Palace & Museum Reviews
Melk Abbey is a "do not miss" tour. It is a fairly short tour less than 2 hrs. The Abbey has interesting history and commands a wonderful view of the Danube valley.View All 182 Melk Abbey Reviews
Quaint and nicely interconnected. Passau gives you your first view of historical flooding on the Danube. It also has a unique beer that is well worth tasting.View All 218 Walking Tour Reviews
Picturesque. Neat, little streets, unusual architectural features. I think this was where we saw some glass blowing and really beautiful results.
The tour of the underground caves where art work was hidden during WW2 - really neat. The old part of Nuremberg was also quite interesting in the area where the art tour took us.
Bamberg is just pretty to walk around. So well preserved!
Another really pretty old town. Just fun to walk around, sit a bit with a cup of coffee, ice cream, or beer. Some fellow travelers made sausage. We chose just to eat it. Super good.
Cologne cathedral is one of the wonders of the world. Cool inside and out. Walking tour in area immediately around cathedral is also worth doing. We added self tour of the sewers dating back to Roman days.View All 184 Cologne Cathedral Reviews
