Goodbye Cuba

We chose this trip to visit Havana and the timing of it worked out with our schedules. I have been on 6 cruises with various cruise lines over the years in the Carribean and Alaska. This was the best in the past few years in terms of food quality. the ship is a little old and could use some revamping, but overall was clean and nice. The buffet food was better than other boats. I usually can't eat at the large buffet near the pool, but this one was different. The eggs were to order in the morning. The carving station had rare roast beef and turkey for lunch and during the day. The fruit was fresh and constantly updated. The breads were varied and really good--hard rolls and such. There was plenty of seating both in and out on the veranda area. There are bars on both sides, so you dont have to venture far to get a drink.

and the drinks!! The Open Bar at Norwegian is the best deal. The liquor is good quality--Stoli, Absolut, Ketel One, Tanqueray, Jack Daniels-- and it is all included. That saved us a ton of money. that and the fact that each bar tab doesnt add a tip is huge. The tips, which are on your final bill, of $19.99/day is a deal. We would have tipped a lot more than that ordinarily.

Disembarking at Cuba was much easier than I had thought. Tickets were given out the day before with the times of debarking. You quickly pass through customs with your passport and the Visa that the cruiseline gives you when you first check in. You exchange your cash right there and there was no line. The port is right in town, so you just walk right out of the port building and are on the main street. the square where you meet the tour guides is directly across the street.

the bathroom needs updating, but it was clean. Having the beds separated really helped the openness of the room and gives more space.
