  3. Carnival Elation
This year instead of gifts, we decided to take a family vacation. We did the 5 night Bahamas cruise out of Jacksonville, FL. I added the Faster to the Fun to our trip and it was worth the money. We never waited in very long lines to embark or disembark compared to other cruisers that did not have the service. It’s worth it...buy it! Carnival Elation was recently renovated and I was pleased with the ship. For a 20 year old ship, they did a great job updating it. Our cabin was G22 which is on Deck 14 by the putt putt course. It is an interior cabin with two twins converted to a king bed and a sofa bed for our 11 year old son. There were plenty of outlets in the room and USB plugs. We brought an extension cord but did not need it. The walls are not metal but the mirror is so we used magnets to decorate our mirror with garland and small Christmas stockings. I used a 3M hook to hang a Christmas decoration on our door. There is a clothes line in the bathroom that you can pull out to hang wet bathing suits. Our steward was wonderful, the towel animals each night were a fun surprise, and our room was comfortable. I left her a thank you with $2 each day on our bed and then gave her a little stocking on Christmas Day with $10 and a chocolate Santa. We loved dinner each night, skip the fried chicken the night they have it, it is dry. But definetly always get dessert. The chocolate lava cake, creme brûlée, and Bitter and Blanc, are worth the calories. Our waiters were fun and got our son up dancing each night. Do go to Sea Day Brunch, loved the steak and eggs and the eggs Benedict. My son wanted to eat Guys burgers and fries for lunch as much as possible. We had the Cheers drink package. My husband and I drank lattes, beer, milkshakes, mixed drinks, mimosas, cokes, and any thing we wanted any time. Once home, I did the math and we would have saved $200 by just buying drinks as we went instead of paying $600+ for the Cheers package. We will not get it again. We did the Sting Ray excursion at Half Moon Cay, our son loved it and for the price it was fun. In Nassau, we walked to Pirates Museum (worth it), John Watlings Rum (not much to it except to drink) Tiki Hut on the beach (cocunut experience is $6 and our son was thrilled) and did a little shopping. We ate on the ship that day since it was free and Nassau prices were too high. ($50 for 6 shrimp on a skewer and two beers.)We did not buy shirts in Nassau but waited until the last sea day and bought them on the ship. 2 for $20 that are much better quality than they sold in Nassau. The kids club was the most disappointing thing, it’s basically a room of babysitting with loud music, video games constantly and movies. Our son preferred the water slides and pool time so we didn’t leave him at Camp Ocean at all. We did bingo and the Christmas show, enjoyed both. I played trivia couple of times and enjoyed it. Christmas Day they had build a bear workshop and tons of kids of all ages bought a Bear. Our son got the stuffed penguin with a carnival shirt, swim trunks, and flip flops ($50 total) Not very impressed with the Fun Crew That leads a lot of the activities, they seemed bored and annoyed with questions. So I gave the trip a 4 due to that and the kids activities. But the question is did we like it so much we will go again...yes. I just booked the Turks and Caicos cruise on the same ship this summer 2019. We can’t wait to cruise on Elation again. We are familiar with the layout now and can find things easily. We will try other ships in the future but it happened that this ship leaves ports that are within driving distance for us. Our family has the cruise bug now!

Cabin Review

Interior
Cabin 4I G22
Comfortable, plenty of plugs, we had space to put our clothes and then put our suitcases in the closet. Little shelves in the bathroom so we didn’t clutter the counters. If you are hot natured bring a little fan, it wasn’t hot in the room but my husband did say he thought the air was not really cool.
