After sailing with Princess 5 times we decided to try another line to see if we were missing anything. Norwegian's "freestyle cruising" appealed to us because it would reduce our luggage requirements for more formal attire. However, we quickly realized that the dining rooms still had a dress code and the level of service appeared to be proportionate to your dress. We felt humiliated because we were underdressed and a few less than kind fellow passengers made sure we knew it. Perhaps we were just naïve and thought most folks would dress more casually in the main dining rooms based how Norwegian described their cruises. Not so much. Service onboard was hit and miss and many in the cruise staff appeared apathetic and unhappy in their jobs. Poolside drink service is virtually non-existent and there are usually long waits at the pool bars during peak hours. Entertainment required booking at their "box office" which was very inconvenient. We found most shows to be sold out before we could even make a reservation. The entertainment felt like it was rationed and only those willing to wait in long lines at the box office could get a seat. Communication onboard about various entertainment and activities was confusing at best. The onboard bingo was an absolute sh*t show. Oversold with small prize pools, the games were run haphazardly by less than stellar cruise personnel. Felt like more of a hustle than fun entertainment. Their famous pull-tabs that they sell all over the ship gave it a real dive bar feel. There is no real store on the ship for toiletries or anything else so come fully prepared! We've been on enough cruises to know what good service is and Norwegian did not deliver. Very disappointed that we chose the "Motel 6" of the high seas for our long-awaited, and quite expensive (for us) Christmas vacation. To be fair, the bartenders onboard were all excellent and they do an amazing job of helping you get drunk enough to look past many of the other shortcomings onboard.. The cabin, buffet food, and excursions were all pretty standard. No real issues there. I would recommend Norwegian to Spring Break college students looking for a booze cruise with water slides. Otherwise if you want to have a quality experience book another line.
Standard balcony cabin with a larger than average bathroom.
New Orleans is a great place to visit before the cruise.
Perhaps the best part of the cruise. Norwegian's Harvest Caye is very nice and well kept. Good place to spend a beach day. We did the Parasailing and it was excellent.
