Viking Alsvin Cruise Review by claudenewton
- Sail Date: October 2017
- Destination: Europe River
- Cabin Type: French Balcony
We started our cruise in Paris, where we opted for a two day extension. Viking was so organized that we knew what tours they were providing us several months in advance. Therefore, we were able to optimize our time there and take some extra excursions on our own prior to the included tours. This was great, and allowed us to do much more on our own. We toured the Catacombs, and the Eiffel Tower at night!
On our way to embarkation in Trier, Germany, we stopped in Luxembourg for a nice visit to the country and the American Cemetery, where Gen Patton in buried. As a retired US Navy officer, my wife and I were so appreciative for this side trip.
Upon boarding the ship, we were greeted by a smiling, happy, pleasant, warm and gracious staff. Everyone from the room stewards, dining staff, deck hands, captain and of course the cruise director, Bujorn were top notch. Everyone spoke excellent English, and could not do enough to ensure you were happy at all times. The room was spacious enough for the two of us, and we loved the french balcony, where we would sit during the evenings and watch the countryside drift by. The room had ample receptacles for 120 volt devices.
The dining was excellent, and included healthy choices at each meal.
The tours were well organized, and most enjoyable. We loved the voicebox that was provided that allowed all members of the group to hear the tour guide without having to be at the front of the pack. All the guides spoke excellent English, and we most knowledgeable in their presentations of their cities What fun we had.
We really did not participate in the on board entertainment, as we were usually too tired from the daily activities. We did talk to other guests, and heard that the activities were quite good and informative and entertaining.
We thought this would be our one and only visit to Europe, but we enjoyed it so much, that we have booked a British Isle Cruise on a Viking Ocean Liner for July 2019. We can't wait, and are already looking at tours for this cruise.
We would recommend Viking to anyone and everyone.
