We have cruised on Royal Carribean, Princess, Carnival, and now Celebrity. I would rank Celebrity higher within the four if the excursions exceeded expectations. The dining staff is exceptional. Thank you, Naum, Manoj, and Salv. The room staff is exceptional. Thank you, Leroy. The food in the Ocean Cafe' was good. The dinner menu is exceptional. The wine was nice. The unlimited premium drink package is a must if cruisers consume libations. The premium wine tasting was one of my favorite experiences. Well worth the money. Excellent wine presented by an expert sommelier. The bar staff is amazing. We especially enjoyed the martini bar. Dan, the Cruise Director, and Christine did a great job of engaging cruisers, and they offered a wide variety of activities such as silent disco, bingo, family games, adult games, dance lessons, comedians, magicians, and entertaining talent. Their lead chorus person, Alexis, is outstanding as are the others who perform. The medical staff was professional and helpful. The fitness center is ok. I found it difficult to find entertainment while on the elliptical without WIFI. (WIFI is extra). As I mentioned earlier, I would rank Celebrity higher with excursion improvement. Do not take the Discovery dive in Puerto Rico. The experience is expensive, short, and too dark to see a thing. It is unsafe to take new divers down in the dark waters with one flashlight. The leader was nice, but the dive was unsafe and disappointing. The St. Maarten 5 point Island tour was just average. The bus stopped on top of the summit, which was beautiful. The tourist shop was an over-the-top tourist trap. Chairs and umbrellas at the beach would have helped to make this more special. The certified dive excursions in St. Maarten and St. Thomas were great per my son. The Miami Hop On - Hop Off Big Bus was fun. Do beware if you have to sit inside the bus as the top is full, some buses do not have AC. It was sweltering hot. After we moved to the top, the tour guide, Cat, was very entertaining and we enjoyed the tour. The Celebrity directions for excursions were a bit unclear for us. The Puerto Rico biking excursion left the dock before the departure time and so did other excursions we attended. Read the ticket details. The meeting time is noted on tht ticket. This meeting time should be the departure time. I missed the Bike Tour even though I was at the meeting place 5 min. late, but at the dock by the departure time of 4 p.m. More clocks on the ship and more clarity with directions would help - especially at the first port. In addition, some of the Excursion staff were helpful, while others were not (Thank you Will and Natasha). On our first excursion, two Celebrity staffers treated me unprofessionally with a "I should have known" all of the details approach. The experience was anything but positive, and I had to work to remove the distasteful lense. With regards to the ship, she is an aged girl and needs a bit of updating but she is super clean. A word of caution, be careful on the steps. Some of the steps have rubber to prevent slipping while others have metal strips. When it rains, the steps can get slick. My son experienced this first hand, hence my earlier positive comments about the kind and professional medical staff. Cruisers must use the handrails and lots of Purell. If you choose to cruise with the Equinox, enjoy all that she has to offer but cautiously select excursions.
