All in all I have to say my friend and I had a great time on our cruise on the NCL Sky! I did plenty of research before picking this ship so we were well aware that this is one of the oldest (1999) and smallest (2k guests) of the NCL fleet. That's not a bad thing at all, the last cruise we did was in March on the NCL Epic (4k guests) and loved the Sky so much better! The Epic although big and modern was too crowded for us and we picked worst time to go, spring break! The layout of the Epic caused long lines and crowding at many places and compared to the Sky, even with a fully sold-out cruise, we never felt crowded or claustrophobic.

Embarking from Miami was a breeze, check in and security was not a big hassle, our check in time was 11:30 and we were on the ship with drink in hand by 12:30! The ship I feel has a great layout and floor plan, there are numerous restaurants, and bars spread throughout and it was a lot of fun walking around and exploring. The Sky also has a very nice central atrium with glass elevators and cool stairs which when we went was decorated for the holidays. There is also deck 6 which is a promenade deck which allows you to walk around the outside of the entire ship, unlike the Epic which felt like a nice mall inside, with not many outside areas to enjoy. We liked that the Sky pool deck felt open and airy with a large bar at one end of the deck, the pools, hot tubs, seating and the other end a stage. Above the stage on the sun deck level is another bar which was never too crowded. All bars had great staff, we never had to wait long for help with drinks and everyone was so nice and accommodating! Loved Captain Cook's bar and the Outrigger lounge which was at the front of the ship. The lounge is large and had an amazing balcony at the front of the ship and large windows too. We saw an incredible delighting storm at sea and couldn't have found a better spot to view it.

We had a mid ship balcony on the port side of the ship and it was nice. Room was a little small but what can you expect on a ship! Rooms are also dated compared to the Epic but worked just fine for us. A small desk, fridge and TV in the corner, a bed and small couch. Then the small bathroom and shower. I think its really neat how ships try to cram storage into places, and how tight things are, hey it is what it is right? Balcony had 2 chairs and small table and it was awesome to sit out and relax. We did room service breakfast last day onboard and was awesome having coffee and breakfast outside.

Port Reviews

Miami

We stayed in a hotel in South Beach the night before the cruise. It felt good knowing that the morning of the cruise, we didn't have to rush around too much. Hotel was Waldorf towers right on the beach in the midst of all the art deco tourist stuff. We didn't mind it! It was nice to spend a day wandering around the beach, grabbing drinks and food and of course people watching.
