This cruise was my 5th, two on Royal, two on Carnival. Leaving out of Miami was great, definitely the type of city you want to spend an extra night or so. Embarkation was ok, but could have been faster. Booked Norwegian because I heard their food is good, we wanted to try a newer mega ship, and the free at sea drinks deal was very enticing. Upon boarding the ship you can tell that there were more people than they really design the boat for. The shows require reservations as only about a fifth of everyone on board would be able to fit in the theater. The comedy club is also small and fills up quickly. Luckily there are kiosks all around the ship so that you can book your activities. The cabin was modern with tons of little drawers and areas to put lots of items for a long cruise. Suitcases fit easily under the beds, and our cabin steward Marcos, man the guy was out of this world. I cannot say enough good things about Marcos! The room was spotless, I know because I usually do my own cleaning when I check in. He also led the housekeeping department at the departure party the last night. This boat is loaded with top notch lighting and entertainment technology. Large screen in the back of the ship playing movies at night, that area turns to a party at night. The nightclub was modern with a great LED wall, and the chandelier in the center of the ship was beautiful. The comedy shows were good, but incredibly repetitive. There was lots of live music around the boat, but a lot of it was rather easy going. I'd love to see a cover band added to the mix. Burn the floor and Million Dollar Quartet had some of the most talented entertainers I have ever seen (especially the guy who played Carl Perkins). The ropes course is an absolutely must, really cool feature.

The Glow party is a blast, definitely bring your white clothes for that. The drinks were always flowing and always amazing. The food on this boat was great, quick service and always warm. I am not exactly a fan of the buffet setup as it is completely without organization or order, other guests just pop in and out of the buffet line as they please.

The only parts of the boat that were a bit rough were how incredibly undersized the gym was for a ship this size. It was closer to a good home gym than something meant for 4000 people. They also seem to find a way to nickel and dime just a bit too much for a true vacation. Aside from those small items, I would love to go back, in fact we already booked another Norwegian cruise for March. If our next cruise (Epic) is even close to as great as the Getaway was, we will be very happy.

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Inside Stateroom

Cabin IE

Our cabin was nice. Very modern. The shower was quite small, but the room was very functional. There is a hairdryer and tons of storage space around the room. Our cabin steward Marcos was incredible. Nicest guy on Earth and did a wonderful job.

Port Reviews

Costa Maya

Went over to the town area and the beach. Prices were nice and felt safe.

Harvest Caye

It is a very nice port with lots of chairs, but everything here costs money and a lot of it.
