Sail Date: Dec 2018

There were 5 of us, various ages that booked this family vacation. We booked 3 weeks prior to departure and got a great price, when NCL lowered their rates close to sailing. Embarkation in San Juan went well; even arriving at the peak noon checkin time, we were in on board 25 minutes afterwards. Unfortunately, there was no dropoff room on board while we were waiting on the staterooms for occupancy, so it was crowded with so many on board with their luggage. Once on board in my room, I had a major cleaning issue that needed to be addressed. Mold is not something to mess with. The issue was immediately addressed and rectified with a cabin change. I had sailed on the Dawn twice before, and the refurbish works! Very classy now inside, but you can still see the 1990s pale yellow lights and some woodwork... so you WILL know she's been around a few years. Staff on board was mostly very outgoing and friendly. I was impressed by Assistant Maitre'd Siti. This lady was one of those people you looked forward to seeing daily, as she GENUINELY cared for her guests and staff. I must admit, NCL has continued to become the Spirit Airlines of the cruise industry with the nickel and diming. If you are a Latitudes Platinum member, you will certainly notice the changes. As an example, at the welcome back party, there were only the 2 Cruise Next representatives. No other officers or staff showed up. It was a 45 minute sales pitch, which some folks just got up and left from. No drawings or raffles, UNLESS you made a cruise deposit! There was a running joke on board that ribeye steak had been missing for weeks in Cagneys, and sure enough: no ribeye again. The irony here is that your Platinum status gives only a $20 meal credit, which isn't much there. NCL needs to find a better wifi provider, like Royal Caribbean. Their $249 package was ridiculous, and I witnessed the frustration of others using it... not high speed. Food was decent regardless of where we ate. As a tip, try the Indian food in the buffet... fresh, tasty, and perfectly spiced. One thing the Dawn has over the newer ships is deck space. During seadays, there were always open deck chairs. Disembarking was great in SJU, we waited until 945am, and was in an Ubër 10 minutes later. No lines. A decent cruise overall.
