Chose this cruise for the itinerary. Ship still in great shape, wish I could say the same for daily onboard activities. Absolutely nothing to do during pool hours. This is a ship for the very old. Both the wife and I are 65 and we were some of the younger passengers. Coming off the Oasis of the Seas, Koningsdam will put you to sleep. Except for BB Kings blues club, the ship closes down by 11:00pm. Nightly entertainment rates a 2 out of 10. One can only listen to the same musicians play the same music for so long then it gets old however there is no other place to go. Only saw the cruise director getting a drink at the bar or for two minutes at the show. Shops were poorly stocked. When I inquired the staff advised they were changing over to name brand stores. Daily messages are not heard inside the staterooms therefore many folks had to open the stateroom doors to hear. Aft pool deck overtaken by smokers and not a pleasant area to spend a sea day. Main pool has very few deck chairs and even with the roof open is very warm. Tables designated for outside eating venues are taken up by those playing cards or other games. Although HAL does its best to maintain sanitary conditions we saw an elderly man fill his gatorade bottle with water from a pitcher at the pizza restaurant by touching the pitcher spout to the place where he would have to put his lips to drink. I also confronted an eldetly women touching all the bread at the lunch buffet with her hands. You are served everything at the buffet by staff. Children dont act like this! We will stick to Celebrity and Royal Caribbean. By the way we are two star mariners and know what HAL is capable of on the Eurodam, Westerdam and Nieuw Amsterdam. The Koningsdam doesn’t come close.
